  1. Claes goes through odd, random phases. For this one, the dog seems particularly interested. Most likely this will be a short phase.

  2. For a moment I thought this might be an Eww-type pic. I was distracted by the lines across the faces of the characters, which I took to be the depiction of the sort of “rain” an enormous dog might deliver to an enormous hydrant, and so be a pretentious and roundabout way of Wine Bibber to say that there is a big storm going on. But then I spotted the blue sky and lack of rain there, and the lines were just indications of glass in the window.

  3. For those who didn’t know (like me) that Oldenburg is a real sculptor who specializes in public art using giant versions of everyday objects: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Claes_Oldenburg.

The problem is, a giant inflatable fire hydrant seems very on-brand for him. So given that the scenario in the comic is entirely plausible, what’s the joke?

  4. @Powers – I think that the joke is that the dog is very interested in this phase, and all the dogs of the city will quickly become art critics.
