  1. What graphic? I don‘t see no §+!≠<!≠? graphic!
    P.S. After a while the alt-text “march23a ander” appeared, but the underlying link refuses to produce anything. Can anyone else here see it?

  3. I can see the graphic. Also, Bill, my comment only makes sense as a response to Kilby’s first comment, so after you delete his two comments, can you also delete my comment? And also anyone responding to me?

  4. The teacher is building lessons based on what came before. “Write a story.” “Now add descriptions to make it more vivid.” “Now draw scenes from it.” The kid doesn’t get the point, and wonders why he had to describe things if he’s going to draw them, anyway.

    Oh, and don’t delete this if or when you delete the first three comments.

  5. In my days as an avid reader of what would now look like vintage or classic science fiction, I had an uneasy relationship to the work of Ray Bradbury. I understood Fahrenheit 451, and liked some of The Martian Chronicles, but never really got a toehold in Dandelion Wine or The Illustrated Man.
    Because I was a kid!

  6. It would be difficult to classify Dandelion Wine as science-fiction. It might be fantasy or the seeming elements of that in the stories might be a young boy’s imagination.

I read almost all of Bradbury’s works during the “shovel them all into my brain” period between my discovery of sf in the late 1950s and my getting distracted by college and grad school in the early to mid 1970s. But for some reason I didn’t read DANDELION WINE back then, or at all until only about ten years ago, when my attitude was “twee — meh.”

    I still really like a number of Bradbury’s horror stories and (with reservations of the “we don’t know *all* that much about Mars back then, and anyway Bradbury never cared about the science parts”) quite a few of his sf stories — but he’s not in my top twenty or so favorite authors in either field. Top fifty, sure.
