@Mitch4,
>>"So I submit my original parenthetical about non-equivalence was not too far off the mark."

I never questioned your statement that there could be systems in which the normal (classical)equivalency between a statement and its contrapositive did not hold: I only questioned the obviousness of the of your claim that any system that did not include the law of excluded middle and double negation elimination axioms would invariably us to "quickly get to rejection of equivalence of the contrapositive." (Well, that and whether "if you love something, [then] set it free" was even a proposition. I still say that it is not). Basically, my argument was that since the two axioms did not appear to me to be required to prove the equivalence of a statement and its contrapositive within classical logical, it might be possible to construct a rational system without those axioms that still supports proposition-contrapositive equivalency. I'm not convinced that it IS possible; I'm just not yet convinced that it IS NOT possible.

That said, I enjoyed the diversion, and particularly appreciate the book links!

The company that makes Blackberry smart phones is now called Blackberry. They recently changed their name from Research in Motion. (Probably because they were tired of hearing those jokes.)

I agree with Dr Shrinker that the artwork doesn't support the snake well. I think it's the way Janis is drawn - if she was flipped over and jumping up it would work, but it looks as if something has attacked her from behind. It's a little clunky. I do think that Keera's addition of “Earlier…” would help the joke too.

Keera & Detcord - I love musical theatre, but having been raised on movie musicals, I am always willing to give the movie versions a chance. One of the flaws of the movie "Les Mis" was the live filming of the singing. It doesn't work. Even actors with great voices struggle and those with marginal voices just flail. What works on stage doesn't work on film - they are totally different mediums and should be treated as such. I think Tom Hooper was going for verisimilitude and put the actors through a little bit of hell to get it.

If the title is an Indiana Jones reference, the quote is "Snakes... Why did it have to be snakes?" If it isn't, then it is a TIDU.

Dang, Detcord @5. I knew enough not to see "Les Mis" the musical in movie form (musicals as movies never works, IME), but Star Trek: TRG (The Reboot Generation) movie II not worth it? My heart breaks. But yeah, if they're going to not only go off-canon, but also off-character, then I'd rather they reboot TNG. There's a limit to going where no man has gone before.

Back to Arlo: I imagine the (missing) caption in the last panel as saying, "Earlier…"

Even if this wasn't reference to the Boston Marathon, it had to have been submitted just a week or so after it -- which would have shown horrific judgment, especially given how may people lost their legs that day.

Rubber snakes are actually a thing that you can buy to keep birds and rodents out of your garden, and they do look real enough to fool unsuspecting humans.
