Those who hate-read Funky Winkerbean over at Son of Stuck Funky are of the general consensus that Tom Batiuk meant “neurotic,” not Nordic:
And today’s “probable misuse of neurotic” synchronicity is completed over at Tina’s Groove, and I have to tag this “CIDU” as well:

Mike: We beat up on Batiuk a lot, so maybe he should be thrown a rose when he gets a decent laugh. (and this also echoes the strips transformation over time)

A couple of people asked me about this, and my first instinct was that “restricted text message” is something that exists only in Tom Batiuk’s reality. A quick peek at the rest of the week’s strips confirms this.
The Son of Stuck Funky site has an entire glossary of expressions and concepts unique to Funkytown.

And we’re back live.
Of course by “live” I mean I put this comic in the queue back in June and it would have gone live this morning whether I’d come home from Boston or not.
And it happens to be several years old.
But still.
So what answer was he looking for?

How is “from a farm near Three Mile Island” a selling point?

What sort of horse’s ass of a teacher cuts into a lunch line?
(And in case anybody’s wondering, yes, there are schools in which teachers and students eat together and stand in line together)

Even by Crankshaft standards, a stamp collector not knowing what a philatelist is borders on brain death.
(And is there anybody here who can’t come up with a word that not only makes for a better gag but sounds more like “philatelist” than “pessimist” does?

Is there an actual play on words involved here, or is this simply a random, pointless, Dollyesque mispronunciation?

Can’t really blame Batiuk for this one, of course, since he works with a long lead time. There was far less excuse for the comic (I can’t remember which strip) poking fun at the Queen Mum, which happened to have been published the day she died. I mean yeah, strips are generally written and submitted three weeks ahead, but… she was what, a hundred and three years old? You really have to know you’re pushing your luck there.

Is “four pencils and an eraser” another well-known phrase that Tom Batiuk made up? And is that actually a punchline?
I’d actually have described four regular basketball players and a much taller center as a message from Batiuk to his readers.

What am I missing here? She’s supposed to be the greatest female basketball player Ohio has ever seen, yet her dunking a basketball is on a par with walking on water??
