The Philadelphia PD has a new plan to “warn” anybody they see texting while walking. Only a warning. No plans down the road for this cash-starved city to give actual tickets. If you believe that, I think the Ben Franklin Bridge is for sale.
There’s a poll seeking your thoughts on the matter, but it’s not here: I’m putting together a new site for Crime, Justice & America magazine (again???) and the poll is part of the site’s test drive. Honestly, it’s still in the beta-beta stage, but the poll is working, so you’re all invited to stop by and vote. Or comment. Or whatever.

Ever notice how just about every comic strip and television show containing teenagers works in at least one storyline about the kid running up a monstrous text messaging bill? Is there a single American family with teenagers and cell phones that doesn’t take the unlimited texting option (which every wireless company offers)?
Are the writers so divorced from reality that they aren’t aware of this? Or is this like the “look at all the snow; so much for global warming, ha ha ha” gag where they just assume their audience is ignorant?
(Just for the record, without unlimited texting, my 16-year-old son’s average monthly bill would be about $350)

What do you say… acceptable for a newspaper comics page? Has the acronym transcended what it originally stood for?
