A lot of people sent me this for the Arlo Page (including two who prefaced it with “I’m sure Nicole already sent this one in, but…”), but… I don’t know… I mean yeah, they probably are discussing some sort of sexual wager, but there are any number of things they
could be referring to, so I certainly wouldn’t put this in the NSFW category. Though I’m not as confident about the comments that might show up below.

A federal appeals court today threw out a $550,000 fine levied by the FCC against the CBS television network for showing the momentary exposure of most of Janet Jackson’s breast during the halftime show of the 2004 Super Bowl, saying the agency acted “acted arbitrarily and capriciously” and violated its own policy of only imposing fines when an offense is so “pervasive as to amount to ’shock treatment’ for the audience.” Apparently, an image that can only be seen by somebody with a TIVO does not count.
Incredibly enough, there’s still no mention of any punishment for Justin Timberlake for introducing the phrase “wardrobe malfunction” into the English language.
Nicole reminds me that Billo had a bit to say about this non-issue at the time…

I noticed in the supermarket today a big sign saying “Stock Up For the Big Game,” which made me realize I’d been seeing a lot of advertising that referred to the Super Bowl without actually mentioning its name. Which made me wonder whether tis is some sort of legal thing where the NFL owns the rights to the name “Super Bowl” (which of course they do) and won’t allow companies to use the name in their advertosing without permission.
Does anybody know this to be the case?
