It’s odd when you meet artists who occasionally draw themselves into their own strips, because you don’t always know what to expect: David Willis looked so much like the “David Willis” character that if I’d passed him in the street, I’d probably have thought “Wow, that guy looks a lot like David Willis. Or maybe Walky.”
Randy Mulholland, on the other hand, looks nothing like “Randy Mulholland.”
Francesco Marciulano also looked nothing like “Medium Large Guy” — but to be fair, he never explicitly said this character was supposed to be his stand-in.
This all comes to mind because I’m planning to meet up with Zack Weiner tomorrow at NYCC, and he frequently draws himself into his strip — and I’m just hoping he won’t be sitting behind his table naked.

Does Arlo think Janis is saying “topless bar”? And if so, did they really disappear after the 1970s? And when was the last time Arlo had his hearing checked, because even Crankshaft wouldn’t make this mistake.
Although, I guess, people tend to hear what they want to hear.
If this is what’s going on, we’ve got synchronicity with today’s very NSFW Something Positive.

Unless I’m convinced otherwise, this one gets “Hey Geriatrics! Comics!” honors. Most readers under “a certain age” — and Davan — might be aware of who Kunta Kinte was, but that’s a far cry from this particular scene coming immediately to mind.
What ever happened to Roots anyway? Seems like it won all those awards, spawned some sequels, then just disappeared from sight. You’d think it would at least get repeated in syndication somewhere during Black History Month or something…
