Less a joke than a ”hi five, dude’

Of course, I’m the genius who came home with a bunch of gift cards, made sure to put them all in a safe place, and… well, you know how this ends…

And rightfully so…

My signature used to get rejected by those machines all the time, until a cashier told me the secret: they’ll usually reject any signature that doesn’t contain at least three loops (any sort of closed circle or oval) — which my signature doesn’t have.Since then I just sign with three loops, no pretense of an actual signature, and I’ve never had a problem with either a machine or a cashier.

Personally, I’m amused by the notion that Christmas, St. Valentine’s Day and Easter have tchotchkes

Calling the Friday Black

Cidu Bill on Nov 25th 2012

Marla’s supercilious attitude notwithstanding, I place most of the blame on the stores, not the customers, for creating scenarios guaranteed to create chaos. If you airdropped hundred dollar bills over Wrigley Field, and fans trample one another running down to the field to grab them, that’s on you.

Grumble

Cidu Bill on Jul 21st 2008

grumbel.gif
Okay, I’m actually with Stuart here: The customer probably pays with Visa anyway, so why not get a Grumbel’s card and save 10%?

I have a Macy’s card I’ve only used once: It was the only store where I could find a ready-to-wear suit for my hard-to-fit son (who told me two days before the fact that he needed one), and they offered me 20% off if I signed up for their card. Hell, yeah.

I also appreciated the symmetry of using a card one time ever for a suit I knew my son would outgrow before he needed to wear it again.

Thirty Percent

Cidu Bill on Jan 11th 2008

30percent.gif
But if he doesn’t know what 30% means, then…?

Well, there really isn’t much more to say about this one, so let’s go on to another 30% comic:

thirtypercent.gif
Okay, I see the “basic math skills” part — the shirt should cost $11.89 — but then, I wouldn’t expect either the customer or the sales person to figure that out in her head (which is why cash registers have built in computers to calculate the correct change for a $4.76 purchase made with a $5 bill). Basic math skills have nothing to do with the bizarre leap in logic by which the customer expects the store’s going to pay her to take the item.
