Bunch of people sent me this one, and my explanation was

It’s meant to be a parody of the idiots who say
“It’s snowing now, so global warming must be a lie.” The world looks flat from where those two people are standing, so it must actually be flat.

I am, however, open to opposing viewpoints.

Elyrest sent me this as an LOL. And it is funny, but… I understand the whole everybody-hates-mimes thing (most memorably expressed in Die Hard 3), but what’s the joke here other than “mimes are bad”? Is there significance to a mime cop? And for that matter, wouldn’t a mime be a pretty ineffective interrogator?

I guess that would make him a “bad cop,” but in an entirely different sense.

Synchronicity in the News

This one’s from yesterday, and only loosely related, but I like it:

You can certainly understand why syndicated cartoonists are leading the “save our newspapers” bandwagon: Until a different business model for the distribution of their work comes along, this is their livelihood. And of course from the readers’ point of view, it will be a poorer world indeed without Arlo, Frazz, and so many of our other friends.

I personally look at this issue from both ends: I discontinued by own Crimeweek column in November after losing more than 3/4 of the newspapers carrying it. Nobody dropped the column: the papers themselves went out of business.
