Yesterday afternoon, I mentioned that I’d love to raise an additional $21 for this morning’s March of Dimes Walkathon. Within minutes, a $21 donation came in. Followed over the next few hours by three more $21 donations. And a $50 donation and a couple others for an afternoon and evening total of $154. Which brought the grand total to $504.

It’s that time of year again when I’m asking everybody to contribute what they can to the March of Dimes (using the PayPal button in the left-hand column). I’ll personally match the total amount.
My older son and I have been participating in the annual walkathon (now known as the March for Babies) since 1993. That era is now over, since he’s working in Boston — so this year my younger son takes over “make sure Dad gets to the finish line without keeling over” duties.

The CIDU site has received a number of donations lately — for which I am grateful, but… it also made me realize I’m not really comfortable with the whole donation concept. So I removed the button.
But I’ll be putting it back up in April to make my annual March of Dimes pitch. As I mentioned last year, my older son has retired from the March of Dimes Walkathon after 17 years (he’s working out of state), so my younger son will be taking his place.

Last year, I said that the 2008 March of Dimes Walk America would be the end of an era — for us, anyway — because my son and I would be participating for our sixteenth and final time (we began when he was 2). Turns out we’ve got one more walk in us, since he’s working an internship this spring close to home.
So same as last year, any donations made to CIDU (you can use the button atop the right-hand column of this page) by the end of the day on April 25 (today) will go to March of Dimes tomorrow morning — and I’ll pay the PayPal fee (they help themselves to 6% of all payments, the goniffs) and I’ll match all donations.
