The Third Confession

Cidu Bill on Jan 21st 2010

Earlier this month, we were all shocked — shocked, I say — by Mark McGwire’s admission that he was taking steroids the year that he suddenly bulked up and shattered Roger Maris’s home run record (though he insists he would have hit those 70 home runs anyway). Today, John Edwards confirmed that he is indeed the father of the two-year-old girl whose mother he was having affair with in the months before and after the child was conceived (in possibly the lamest deception in political history, one of Edwards’s staffers had claimed that he was the father. Edwards’s confession came about because the staffer has written a tell-all book. They just don’t make flunkies the way they used to).

So today’s question is, assuming these things come in threes, who will be the next public figure to come clean about something everybody already knew?

Johnny B. Bad

Cidu Bill on Aug 8th 2008

John Edwards, who was (but is no longer)  a U.S. senator, and who was (but is no longer) a presidential candidate, admitted today that he had an affair with a 42-year-old filmmaker. He will discuss the affair on ABC’s Nightline tonight.

This is all front page news because…?
