And is there any real joke here, or is this similar to Jeremy’s comment going over Connie’s head, indicated by his comment literally going over her head (I still think the hashtag thing should have had something to do with something there)?
One person sent it to me with the Geezer tag, one sent it to me as a LOL, and one sent it to me just because. Forgive my ignorance (well, you’ve been doing that for more than 16 years now), but what’s the joke here? I mean yeah, Cliff Clavin from Cheers, and “Clavin” is Calvin is you’re mildly dyslexic, but… so?
Putting aside the fact that nobody’s read this book in 40 years — it hasn’t aged well — why is the seagull divebombing the guy just because he’s reading it?
I remember some years ago when I heard my niece sing “Your Mother Should Know” during a school function and realized that that song had been a hit before her mother was born.
Okay, where was I? Oh yeah, today’s oldies synchronicity:
And the second one is a CIDU.
I mean right, he’s Bobby McGee. But where’s the joke here?
Somebody sent me this as a “Geezer” strip, and I wrote back no, even kids today know what a phone booth is, even if they’ve never used one. Then three or four other people sent me the same comic.
So was I wrong? Would a younger reader look at this and have no idea what’s being referred to?
James Schend: Perfect Strangers went off the air in, what, 1992? It’s not even in re-runs anywhere, as far as I’m aware. Granted, not as geezerly as most geezer strips, but still.
Not a CIDU… just wondering whether this falls into Geezer territory. Back in the day, when all stores were closed on Sundays, “days until Christmas” was different from “shopping days until Christmas.” Do people still refer to “shopping days before Christmas” (which presumably is now the same as “days until Christmas”)?
