Here’s a novel thought: maybe neither of them?
I remember maybe 20 years ago we were at the mall and there was a booth there for a bank or something, and essentially if you signed up to receive some information — giving them your address and telephone number — they’d give you a cheap pen and pencil set. People were lined up to take advantage of the deal. I said to my wife “Either they don’t see anything wrong with giving out their personal information, or they must really, really need that pen and pencil.
Today the same thing is going on, but nobody’s asking first and we’re not even getting the freakin’ pen and pencil set.

Their newest scam: You can’t open up a Gmail account without giving them your cell phone number. It has to be an actual number, because they’re going to use it to send you a confirmation code. And after they do that? They keep your number on file “to make sure it is used to create a limited number of accounts.”
The reason for this new requirement? The customer’s safety and security. Yeah, you betcha.
I suspect I will never be desperate enough for a new e-mail address that I will turn over my cell phone number to Google. They can make all the promises they want about how they’ll never use the information for improper purposes: you’d have to be a fool to believe somebody who lies to obtain that information in the first place.

I’m sorry; I tried my best, but I just can’t deal with having to click through just to see each comic.
Okay, once and for all and in a single place: Continue Reading »

Spam has pretty much made the e-mail address I’ve used for the past four years useless, so all submissions to the CIDU Page should now be sent to comicsidontunderstand………………at……………………gmail.com.
A couple of other notes that I’ll be adding to the FAQ along with the e-mail change:
If you send a comment that uses the word “suck” in any context, it will be sent to my moderation queue rather than immediately appearing on the page. This filter was necessary because of the vast amount of sexually-based spam that includes the word.
Yes, once again spam is inconveniencing everybody. It sucks, I know.
I’ve been getting a lot of requests lately to “exchange links.” For the record, I’ve never done that. If anybody wants to link to the CIDU Page (and many people do), thank you. If there’s a site I think I should recommend to you guys, I’ll link to it. But I don’t play quid pro quo.
This won’t be going on the FAQ, but… You might notice that the Google Adsense ads are gone. Good old Google, screwed me again (”suck” is filtered; “screw” isn’t. Go figure). Some years back, Continue Reading »
