Yeah, I know, who cares? What’s interesting, though, is whether she violated copyright laws: a letter-writer, not the recipient, owns all rights to his work. Is online communication treated differently? Fortunately my publisher hangs out with a lot of lawyers, and he hooked me up with one who was willing to discuss all the angles.

“Disney, which owns the copyright for Snow White and the Seven Dwarves…” I think not, Fox News (their story). Disney does own the rights to their specific cartoon images of Snow and her little pals, though, so the question here is whether Australia’s Jamieson’s Raspberry Ale label is too close to this

Today, the John McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee apologized to Jackson Browne for using (without permission) his song “Running on Empty” in television commercials last year criticizing Obama’ s energy ideas.
Now, what I’m wondering is… Is this whole “copyright” concept a lot newer than I thought it was? Did the McCain campaign not get the memo? I mean seriously, how is it possible that nobody involved in the filming of the commercial knew that you can’t just appropriate somebody else’s song for a commercial? And have they all moved on to jobs with American Apparel?
