Tied outdoors, Dragon suffered separation anxiety from Wizard.
So Dragon sought Wizard via the most direct route.

Q: Where does a 5000 pound dragon sleep?
    A: Anywhere he wants to.

The joke is supposed to be that a fearsome, awe-inspiring creature like a dragon should not be afraid of anything. The problem is that this particular dragon looks about as fearsome as a poodle named “Fifi”.

Kirby, did you mean that you see that as a problem with the cartoon? I think it’s just a factor within the joke. Which is indeed as Ron has it originally, with the cute appeal of the dragon helping make it work.

@ mitch4 (8) - No, you’re right, it’s not a problem for the joke, it’s just a problem for that dragon. They’ll never get it out of the house if it can’t develop some self-confidence.
