Are we supposed to understand the “died suddenly”?

A couple weeks back, the assistant quit in disgust. So “died suddenly” is just a lie.

    See Monday April 3. http://comicskingdom.com/retail/comics?page=3

“Died suddenly” in this case means “left because
he couldn’t stand my style of adversarial management”.
Which happens to be the style of the blond guy here.

    I don’t follow the strip.

The link in #1 appears to require an account.

Huh. I don’t follow it, so I’m sure not arguing with a reference to a previous strip, but I took it as “He … died, yeah, that’s it, he died”. As in, “He got disappeared”, one way or another.

The cast is pretty sharply divided between the decent ones and the exploiters or connivers.

Okay - there are two department stores in the same mall. Grumbels is the one that is where the main characters work. Delman’s is the other store.

Plot line of behind this sequence -

The woman is the manager of Delman’s. She is not a nice person. She had applied for the assistant manager at Grumbels some time ago but the manager there did not hire her. She did hire the fellow is the assistant manager at Grumbles who is a toady to the district manager and only is assistant manager because the district manager pushed him on the terribly nice store manager at Grumbels.

Grumbels corporate has cut the payroll budget and the store manager and this fellow, the assistant manager will each have to work a register an hour a week and he (Brice the fellow shown) does not want to - really does not want to.

A short while ago the assistant manager at Delman’s quit because he could not take his boss any longer. She started walking around Grumbels in disguise and when Brice said that he would not work on a register she popped out and told him to come and see her.

When he asks the logical question of what happened to her old assistant manager, she does not tell him that that he quit as he could stand her - she instead says he died (possibly as in “he is dead to me” and because if she said he quit - Brice might wonder why he quit.

In the strips since Brice accepts the job. She is going to make an offer to match his old salary, he insists on a raise which she gives him - apparently Grumbels pays much less than Delman’s and he is is getting sc…ed on the deal as she would have paid more. He did insist that he had to give 2 weeks notice at Grumbels.

Final kicker is that in the Monday strip we found out that most of management at their “New Hampshire” store is being investigated for nefarious matters and being fired and the district manager wants to talk to Brice about it.
