Brings to mind There’s Another Santa Claus by Bob Rivers.
“Will my chimney be backed up with Santas all crammed in tight?”

“There can be only one”. ;)

I thought it was too big a job for one guy to complete in a night. Now it makes sense to me. :-D

I thought he it’s because Santa distorts time to travel to every house in a night, so sometimes he runs into himself

Which is the shopping mall Santa, and which is the real Santa?

It would have been funnier if it had been the Grinch coming out of the chimney, but Deering probably doesn’t want to be sued by the Theodore Geisel estate.

I thought more that someone was stepping on someone else’s turf/territory.

Jeff might be right about that. I rather like this doppelgangersanta, though.

I just take it as nonsenical humor, without the need for explanation.

There’s something stuck up in the chimney and I don’t know what it is, but it’s been there all year long.

The “kindly old man who gives toys to kids” is a marketing fiction created by Big Toy. It’s actually a franchise operation, with different “Santas” for different territories, and what we have here is a miscommunication of territorial boundaries between two franchisees.

It’s not unlike the way there is no “Uncle Ben” making rice, or “Mrs. Butterworth” making syrup, or the way the local McDonald’s features an appearance by “Ronald McDonald”, or the way “Colonel Sanders” is sometimes played by Norm MacDonald, and sometimes by Rob Riggle.

This reminds me of the turf war between chimney sweeps in our neighborhood. The whole business is regulated by German law, and neighborhoods are parceled out, but our street is one of the dividing line, so that houses on the other side are handled by a different company. When a new operator took over there, he tried to “expand” his business by dropping flyers on our side of the street, which (understandably) annoyed “our” chimney sweep a great deal.

    Two Santas - no waiting.

Actually Santa has much more time to go around the world than people realize. If he leaves at 10 pm (presuming all the children will be asleep by then) at the International date line, heading west, he has until it is around 5 or 6 am on the other side of the date line.

If he heads east he is crazy.
