I don’t even begin to understand the 2nd one.

So, the guy in the alley way offers a candy cane. Our Hero, being an optimist, thinks it’s a gift. Turns out, it’s not even a real candy cane… it’s a cane that he’s taken from somebody and painted to look like a candy cane.

Moral of the story: The holidays s— (that word we mayest not use.) Hilarity (apparently) ensues. YMMV.

James, my mileage on the second one is about that of a fully loaded, bus-sized RV.

Must be in Canada, because Hershey took over Allan this year, causing a shortage of candy canes.

I thought in the second one the guy in the alley was mugged for his candy cane which is being resold.

“I thought in the second one the guy in the alley was mugged for his candy cane which is being resold.”

He was mugged for his cane, which was painted with candy-stripe paint, and then sold as a candy cane. That’s why, in panel 3, there’s paint and a paintbrush, and why the old guy in the alley can’t stand up.
