    Only joke I can see is tying the Trojan horse on the post of a one-saloon town.

    There’s a Troy, Texas, a Troy, Montana, that maybe could be a 3-day journey from such a place, but not in Michigan. Flint (30 miles) and Detroit (15 miles) don’t look like that — at least not yet.

    … but it’ll prob’ly take y’all a l’il longer if yer gonna be pushin’ that stupid contraption the whole dang way.

    I think I just discovered another automatic “moderation” word: “stupid”. Then again, if this shows up right away, then I was wrong. ;-)

    P.S. Nope, that wasn’t it.

    @ Kilby: Checking for words that automatically nullify the post?

    Kind of like when George Carlin died, and several news stations showed a video of … you got it … “The Seven Words You Can’t Say on TV” … including the bleeps.

    @ Proginoskes (4) - I submitted an explanatory addendum to the caption in the name of the barkeeper, but it was sent to moderatorial purgatory, where it still sits. Wordpress moves in mysterious ways, I figured it was a “content” objection, but perhaps the system just didn’t like me using a foreign alias.

    There’s no way to separate the nugget of humor there might be in here from the ways it gets the story just-wrong. The siege was right outside the city walls, and the horse was constructed pretty much right there also — maybe just out of view. So there was nothing like a delivery trip to an uncertain destination. But that can’t be cleared up for the cartoon — it’s the point of the joke, such as it is.

    Does the fact that Michigan State is the “Spartans” come in to play here?

  9. Kit Sep 23rd 2013 at 08:07 am 9

    Perhaps if they’d built a large, wooden badger?

    (Kilby, using a different name with your e-mail address will send your comment into moderation, as will using the same name with a different e-mail address.)

    @billybob: I think the 80,000 residents of Troy, Michigan might disagree with you.

    @Frosted Donut

    billybob was not saying that there is not a Troy, Michigan. He was pointing out that the places within 3 days travel of Troy, MI, (particularly if one has to drag along a giant rolling wooden horse) are not badlands of the geologic kind.

    Frosted Donut, look at the distances billybob gives for Detroit and Flint. I think he’s saying neither of those two cities has deteriorated to what is shown in the comic. Yet.
