Probably the same colorist does both strips.

Interesting that the poodle cuts appear to be reversed between the two.

Most likely explanation: the second cartoonist doesn’t really know the ‘poodle cut.’

Why focus on the pink poodles and not the yellow labs? =)

Also, why are poodles so often drawn pink?

You’re right, Powers - it’s a Double Synchro! Perhaps because yellow labs ARE yellow, but poodles are - rarely - pink.

I assume that they are so often drawn in pink to make ‘em girly-girly, altho they are very intelligent, are excellent retrievers, and there was, at one time, a reason for their ‘poodle cut’.

I like that the 2nd Lab has a very doggy name for his special, personal-posession toy. Mister Monkey is “Giant Kitty” and “Tigger” in our two-pug house.

I’ve always found it interesting that cartoon poodles are invariably female. (So where do little poodles come from?) Same goes for ladybugs.

It’s also interesting that advertising for pet products often refers to dogs as “he” and cats as “she.”

Pooch Café has the best riffs on the masculinity and femininity of dogs. Poor little Poo Poo is a male Bichon Frise and he is relentlessly pursued by Droolia, a huge female mastiff.

Well, as a general rule of thumb, men like dogs and women like cats. However, men are like cats, and women are like dogs, is another general rule of thumb. Women will tolerate all kinds of mistreatment and still come back for more, just like dogs. While men treat women like slaves, expecting them to do everything for just a tiny bit of affection, just like cats.

Mind you, this is just a rule of thumb, meaning it happens more often than not, but it does not describe all instances.

Hope that stops a flame war from starting.

What about those of us who like horses and goats?

I am inordinately fond of goats.

My sister had a pound dog that was a poodle but never had a poodle cut, just a nice shaggy dog.
