    Boy, he really IS gullible if he thinks you can see genes in an optical microscope….

    Did you know that the world “gullible” isn’t in the dictionary?

    LOL! even if I’ve heard it before, or something close.

    And Phelps @2 is probably the most familiar formulation, still a classic.

    Nice! I love it when cartoonists are able to put a new spin on an old gag– it’s surprisingly hard.

    @Kamino Neko, #1:

    Actually, it would be a sufficient proof that you had isolated the gene if you could create organisms which were completely un-gullible and super-gullible by eliminating and duplicating that gene, respectively, so the question would be: what could microorganisms large enough to be seen in an optical microscope do to demonstrate gullibility, anyway?

    Is there an attribute of “glue-ablity”?

    Phelps #2, the first time I overheard that one, the person to whom it had been told actually appeared to believe it for a few seconds, before catching on.

    Morris Keesan @ 7: That’s true of me, too. To be fair, we were four.

    In my case, the victim was a professional colleague, but English was not her first language.
