The big turtle’s shell has been converted to a pop-out camper. Playing on the Turtle’s Shell is His/Her House gimmick. Not the greatest joke ever told, but it got a slight chuckle from me when I read it.

Kelex is right on what the joke is supposed to be. It’s rather dumb. The better joke to me, that gave me a chuckle, is the idea of turtles camping at all. They always have their house with them. If the turtle had been drawn normally, it’d be funny. I also think the cartoonist has confused turtles with kangaroos. Young turtles do not live in their mother’s shell.

Hmmh. Looking at the feet and shells, I think they might be tortises, but it still stands.

I was thinking that as well: kangaroo would make sense.

    Great minds think alike!

I thought he had computer monitors mounted to his shell, which didn’t make sense at all.

I thought it was a fly screen, cos that’s my memories of camping, fighting off the midges (or mosquitos).

Yes, turtles live in their shells. But the pop out camper lets them sleep in extensions which fold out next to their mother’s shell, not in the shell itself. It’s funny and nostalgic if you’ve ever camped in one.
