Probably. I could see this developing over a poker (or other card) game, and they started making bad jokes/puns and he liked this one, so he had to contrive a setup to use it.

The liberal application of alcohol (a standard feature at many poker tables) can render artificial hilarity to any number of unfunny puns.

Wendy and Kilby: Welcome to the club!

Imagine what they’d do if a real “10″ walked by!

mark d: that’s this blog, in spades.

    p.s. Have a heart. (pre-emptive)

What we can’t see off to the side of this panel is what the jack is doing.

    Turn a heart shape upside-down.

    Dat ace!

I hope she doesn’t deck me for that….

Does that make their coworker a diamond in the rough?

  10. Boise Ed Dec 4th 2012 at 07:20 pm 10

No, calling something or someone an “ace” is — or at least, used to be — a common enough compliment.

    What a couple of cards.

  12. Proginoskes Dec 5th 2012 at 02:53 am 12

    I think they’re a couple of jokers.

  13. Stan Dec 5th 2012 at 06:57 am 13

Aghhh, so many puns…please, club me to death.

I think it has to be both “sounds like ass” and also the traditional complimentary “Ace” that Boise Ed #10 mentions.

@ Stan: Only if you’re willing to make a deal.

This begs the question, how do you tell if a card is male or female? (Not counting the face cards.) The two male cards are black, and the female is red, so I wonder if all black cards are male, and all red cards are female. Would this mean that Queens of Spades and Clubs are in fact queens? And Jacks and Kings of Diamonds and Hearts are lesbians? Jokers don’t have suits, so what are they?

  17. Boise Ed Dec 6th 2012 at 02:51 pm 17

Hey, Todd, a lot of guys don’t wear suits.

I’d take a cut at making a pun, but it would probably get lost in the pack.
