You mean the first version probably had the tree at a different angle, or…?

Squinch? Is that squeeze + pinch? With where the tree ended up? Uhm… Where’s the Ew tag?

@ Keera: Nah, there’s no Ew tag because the angle of the tree is wrong.

I interpreted it that the tree is indeed “inserted” and the only reason that the base is pointed up is because the pants are bending in that way. In this regards, I didn’t assume there was a widely different “first draft” and the strip isn’t precluded from being “eww” worthy on that grounds.

Since Garfield sees itself as a family strip, the tree was inserted into his pants, not his body. That’s why the tree’s base points up. Bill’s headline speculates it was otherwise in the first draft.

OK, this is probably just me being me and I allow that it would ruin the joke, but why one earth wouldn’t Jon remove the tree from the back of his pants before he went shopping for another tree? Can you imagine him driving a car with that thing stuffed down the back of is pants?

Now how many presents could you get under that tree? Jon needs to stop being a penny pincher on the holidays
