If you Google “Abstruse Goose”, the first link is in fact the comic’s web site, but its description is a Viagra ad. Is this the author’s idea of a joke, or is it some sort of reverse Google bomb? (I am not a regular reader of the strip)
As I said in another thread, I e-mailed the cartoonist on the 5th asking if he was okay.
So far, no reply. No, I don’t know him, but I thought it was more polite to ask if he
was okay than to ask what’s up with the strip.
Breese, it just occurred to me how terribly hypocritical is was of me to think “that guy who draws Abstruse Goose really should have let people know what’s up” when I never bothered to do the same with CJA.
For various reasons, the CJA site is down right now, and will hopefully be back online December 1.
I have also sent emails and have had no response. I don’t know if the artist ever responded to emails before the apparent disappearance. As I too would love to see more cartoons I am more concerned for the artists well being.
I’ve read some time ago that his website was hacked/stolen. the thief took also his email. Since he never put ad in his page before, and is doing it now, all i can presume is that the hackers doing to get some money: put some hope into the readers to make them visit the site often, put some random comics back so the site appears acitve and get the ads profit
What makes me sad is that the author never made a pronoucement thru other ways (FB, fellow author’s sites, etc.)
The Abstruse Goose site appears to have been updated recently. The note about “coming soon” and “repeat comics” have been removed, and there is now a new cartoon: http://abstrusegoose.com/497
There is of course no explanation for the long hiatus, and the author implies that any e-mails that might have been sent to him in the past few months have been “lost” (which probably means “discarded”).
P.S. @ 11-15: Given any of the myriad ways in which the author could have chosen to post an announcement or press release, the absolute lack of information would seem to discredit any complicated explanation. I think the author simply needed time to figure out whether he wanted to continue with the site, and didn’t think it was worth his time to explain any of this to his (formerly) loyal readership.
