Follow-up: Just got an e-mail from Facebook telling me 7 people tried to “friend” me on the CIDU account. Umm…
There is a CIDU page on Facebook. It was never active, but a number of CIDU regulars have tried to “friend” me there. Since there’s no “there” there, there’s not much point to that — but I’m also on Facebook as Bill Bickel, so feel free to look me up there.
Billo is on Facebook now, for those of you who know what I’m talking about.
The CJA Facebook page is where new articles and posts show up first — but that’s a moot point for now, since the CJA site will be inactive until January.
I have no idea why Google+ exists. I did sign on in order to check it out — but I don’t even remember what e-mail address and password I used, so any attempt to contact me there is futile.
I’m on LinkedIn, though I’m only vaguely clear on why. The how is that one of my cousins was in on the creation of the thing (yes, he is rich), and he set everybody up with accounts. I have very few contacts although, as managing editor of a crime magazine, I suspect I should be accumulating contacts in both the publishing and the crime fields. I keep seeing notices that “XXX now has 30 new contacts,” which is more than I have in total.
I know that’s kind of pathetic.
My understanding — since I never came across a “LinkedIn For Dummies” book, though I’m sure one exists — is that in order to get a contact, you have to contact one of your contacts and get a referral. This seems very awkward to me, and it’s hard to believe that somebody can add 30 new contacts in one day by this method.
So maybe somebody here can set me straight: it’s been my experience that collectively you guys know everything.
(Oh, and please remember that if you post here using a nickname, I’m not necessarily going to know who you are if you contact me on Facebook under your real name)

Chak Olate wrote “It was an eww for me, and a bit of a LOL too, as my grandson would probably find some of his that way, too.
Is swallowing Hot Wheels cars really something that kids do? Because those things are kind of big to go down a child’s throat, and would be a severe choking hazard if they did. I certainly couldn’t imagine a swallowed Hot Wheels car going unnoticed the same way, say, a swallowed penny might.

Just noticed this in my hard drive, in the “Did I ever use this comic???” folder:

This appeared a little more than three weeks after Sandy hit the East Coast. Is it a reference to that? Either way, I can’t find the joke.

Is this something banks actually do?

Marla’s supercilious attitude notwithstanding, I place most of the blame on the stores, not the customers, for creating scenarios guaranteed to create chaos. If you airdropped hundred dollar bills over Wrigley Field, and fans trample one another running down to the field to grab them, that’s on you.

The CIDU queue is running dry. No big deal, it’s a cyclical thing: sometimes I have 3 or 4 months worth of comics waiting their turn, and sometimes… not. So beginning Friday, the usual low-queue schedule change will begin: Saturday Morning Ewww will become Friday Morning Ewww, Sunday Funnies will become the less aesthetic-sounding Monday LOLs, and “regular” CIDUs will run Tuesday through Thursday only. Hopefully by January 1, we’ll have enough backlog to return to the 7-day-a-week schedule.
January 1 is also the projected date for CJA’s return.

Is this joke racist? And would it be more acceptable if the cartoonist were Chinese-American?
I know nothing about Vic Lee, by the way: he could be Chinese-American for all I know. Or his real name might be Viktor Lebowski.
Now this being said, perhaps I’m getting too semantic here, but I don’t necessarily equate “racist” with “offensive.” Recently Rupert Murdoch wrote “Why Is Jewish owned press so consistently anti- Israel in every crisis?” I thought it was brilliant that he managed to be both pro-Israel and anti-Semetic in the same 12-word tweet (though granted, some of my fellow Chosen People were offended).
But hell, I reacted with amusement when a white supremacist told me he couldn’t believe I didn’t know that my people secretly ran all the banks…
(and of course we had a similar discussion last year)
