Campaign Statements I Don’t Understand (a completely non-partisan question)

Paul Ryan, addressing a group of Libertarians, told them to vote for the Romney/Ryan ticket rather than their boy Ron Paul, told them today “Do you want Barack Obama to be re-elected? Then don’t vote for Ron Paul.”

Isn’t the other way around? Wouldn’t voting for Ron Paul rather than the Republican candidates help Obama get re-elected? No matter how many times I read this, it isn’t making sense to me — yet not one account of the speech addresses what I see as a flaw in the reasoning.
