It just seems to be a visual pun, in this case one of those Eww-jokes that, for the businessdog looking on, just might stink.

I agree with Mark (@1): this is a stinky Ewww. The so-called “joke” appears to be that the sculptor completely ignored his dog’s chronic constipation.

What are you guys going on about? This is a clearly tragic piece representing dog’s incanininity to dog… it’s a statement about one can view suffering and just continue on without it having any affect. It’s heart-rending. The pathos. The way the sculptor has captured dog at his most vulnerable moment, and moment that we all share, rich and poor alike, no matter what breed we happen to be.

My thinking is that the author of the joke thought he came up with a clever pun. “When someone says ‘business as usual’, ‘business’ usually turns up to be a bunch of excrement. You know, like a dog doing his business?” He then was left with trying to come up with a visual scenario to properly incorporate his joke. This was the bet he could come up with.

The joke killer here is that “business as usual” merits a statue in the park. Maybe if “Business As Usual” were set up as a show on CNBC or Bloomberg it would be a better joke, although harder to draw.

I’m with Daniel. At first I thought it was a pet cemetery and that this was some kind of sick headstone, but I think probably not with the sidewalks and all. So my next thought was, “Who puts up a monument to ‘Business as Usual?’” I much prefer the idea of it being a Bloomberg TV show for dogs!

This kind of reminds me of those old communist monuments to “The Working Man.” Those sculptures show two or three people in majestic poses, each heroically holding up a hammer, sickle, or frying pan.

But instead of “The Working Man,” here we have “Business as Usual,” presumably dedicated to the working dog.

I thought it was big business will always shit on you — although the poor thing actually looks rather constipated.
