Unless he’s saying that Larry’s Johnson is so long that he tripped over it, I don’t get it.

I think you got it. There is one other possibility, though. Some people think that foot size is
related to johnson size. So, a sufficiently endowed person might have feet too large to chase
    someone through a locker room.

Not Larry’s Johnson, teal-shirt-hipster-dude’s Johnson. Larry wasn’t teasing because t-s-h-d’s genitals were too *small*, the “surprise” that’s supposed to be the “joke” is that Larry was teasing him because his hosepipe and beachballs were so large Larry would trip over them.

Maybe he’s telling this story because he thinks it will impress the blonde gal.

  3. Proginoskes Jan 19th 2012 at 01:57 am 3

@rain: More likely, she’ll ask, “So whatever happened to Larry BigDick … I mean Larry Johnson?”

  4. Proginoskes Jan 19th 2012 at 02:19 am 4

(Dang, why isn’t there an EDIT option here? I thought of a better one:)

Blonde: “So what ever happened to Larry Johnson? Where does he live? I’d like to run into him some day … a few hundred times …”

  5. ja Jan 19th 2012 at 09:16 am 5

My intepretation was initally the same as #2, but I think #1 is what the author had in mind…

  6. Lihtox Jan 19th 2012 at 10:16 am 6

@Proginoskes: I can’t imagine why a woman would want a man to be that long; they’d have to be on opposite sides of the room!

Not dismissing anyone’s else opinion, but I thought it was obvious that the joke was that the reader assumed that Larry was teasing him because his genitals were so small, only to find out he was teasing him because they were incredibly huge. I suppose I might be in the minority with rain, but I am totally flabbergasted that anybody would interpret it any other way and downright shocked that ja was convinced to alter his interpretation.

I thought it was obvious that the exceptionally long genitals belonged to Larry Johnson, and still think that is the correct interpretation.

I, too, was on the lookout for the twist that rain and Judge brought up (with the vague “size of my genitals” in the first balloon), but I don’t see any evidence that the comic went in that direction. It seems more likely that Larry has the problematically large willy if our only clue is that the trouser snake was in close enough proximity to trip him. What’s the scenario if he’s tripping over soul patch’s schlong? Was he using it like a tripwire? Or circling Larry like the Rebels taking down an AT-AT in “Empire”? Or would Larry chase him and eventually catch up to it trailing between soul patch’s legs and slip on it like a banana peel?

I have spent way too much of my day with these images already.

  10. Dr. Shrinker Jan 19th 2012 at 11:47 am 10

If the gigantic genitals (great band name, BTW) belonged to teal hipster guy, how could Larry trip over them while chasing him? He’d be behind them? Or is it that his huge johnson drags behind him and tripped Larry? But then why would running “long enough” be part of the explanation?

Judge Mental, I thought you were right upon first reading, but if so, the joke makes NO sense at all. The other way around it makes a tiny bit more logical, if not the least bit funny.

  11. Dr. Shrinker Jan 19th 2012 at 11:49 am 11

p.s. I know it’s just careless artwork, but it looks like the girlfriend is sporting some significant wood there…

  12. P Jan 19th 2012 at 11:51 am 12

I think that #1 (Arthur) has it. Come on — his name is Larry JOHNSON.

  13. Bob Jan 19th 2012 at 01:08 pm 13

I always thought it was Larry Bird’s Magic Johnson.

  14. Judge Mental Jan 19th 2012 at 02:12 pm 14

I have resigned myself that not many see it my way and it is doubtful I can convince anyone otherwise, and that is okay, But to specifically address Dr. Shrinker’s query at 10:

The longer hipster guy runs, the more “hose” accumulates behind him (sorry I had to put that image out there, but you asked). Additionally, whether it is Johnson’s johnson or not-Johnson’s johnson, the longer (in duration) one runs with an obstacle in his path, the more apt they are to eventually trip.

The joke aside, I find *my* interpretation more logical. (overlooking the notion of genitals being so large that you trip over them) If we assume that Johnson is the one with the giant equipment, wouldn’t everybody else in the locker room be “small” by comparison. Regardless of how small hipster’s package is, it would be more in line with “normal”.

To reiterate, the whole joke hinges upon the reader’s expectation (too small) and the twist of the punchline (too large). I think if hipster was being teased about too small, the first balloon would have explicitly said that… no need to be ambiguous about it, unless that is indeed the joke.

  15. Todd Jan 19th 2012 at 04:15 pm 15

I’m pretty sure the choice of the name Johnson was deliberate. So I expect he was tripping over his own.

And I was going to say something similar to Lihtox’s comment.

  16. George P Jan 19th 2012 at 06:21 pm 16

Yes, everyone else, to Johnson, would have small genitals. There’s no evidence that the speaker is the only person he teased.

  17. mitch4 Jan 19th 2012 at 06:51 pm 17

This doesn’t seem to be very recent, at the Courting Disaster archive. If we located it, there might well be a reader letter printed, that the cartoon was based off, which could clarify the interpretation. (Though sometimes the cartoon goes its own way in contradiction to info in the letter.)

  18. mitch4 Jan 19th 2012 at 07:22 pm 18

Okay … this cartoon is at http://www.courting-disaster.com/archive/20110527.html ,but the letter that would go with it seems to be one click previous, at http://www.courting-disaster.com/archive/20110520.html
The text makes it clear the guy was teased about being small.

  19. Kamino Neko Jan 19th 2012 at 08:08 pm 19

The ‘Johnson’s Johnson is long’ interpretation is cartoonish. The ‘narrator’s the one with the big equipment’ goes beyond cartoonish to ‘Tex Avery would tell you this is too much’.

  20. rain Jan 19th 2012 at 11:10 pm 20

Ok, I’m now agreeing with Kamino Neko. There’s just no joke here. He would just literally run until the guy got his feet tangled and trip. Ha ha?

I think we were trying to make something funny out of this. I’ll take the Tex Avery comment as a compliment.

  21. Judge Mental Jan 20th 2012 at 09:43 am 21

I must acquiesce. I think you guys are right. I certainly agree Kamino Neko regarding the Tex Avery comment. I can’t see the corroborating evidence presented by mitch4 as it is blocked by my firewall, but I have no doubt that he is right. Lastly, I am with rain in that I erred in trying to make something funny out of it. The notion of “you thought he was made fun of for being too small, but he was actually being made fun of for being too big” at least has a germ of a joke about it, the scenario of “it turns out the guy who makes fun of people with small genitalia has big genitalia himself” hasn’t an inkling.

  22. The Ploughman Jan 20th 2012 at 12:21 pm 22

The Judge has again shown his wisdom.
