Bob in Nashville! Can I understand your claiming the fire ant joke as "a groaner" that you consider it funny because it excels in simple stupid witty absurdity? In that case I agree - and I find it strange that some people above don't understand nothing about it. (Or are they pathological grumblers?).

BTW, to#6, and with ref. to: "P is for Arlo" ( http://comicsidontunderstand.com/wordpress/2011/12/21/p-is-for-arlo/ ):

The "P-word" in the ref shall definitely be "piss ant"! That's the common appellation, at least in Sweden and I assume several other countries, to a.o. the, 2-6 mm long, "Red garden-ant", Myrmica rubra, also known as the European fire ant. "Pissmyra", , is one of the first worlds Swedish children are "learning by burning" while learning to talk. They also learn that it is excellent as an abuse and when grown up, they use it frequently, esp behind the steering wheel (when something stronger isn't called for).
It is a species of ant found all over Europe and has started to invade North America. Put its name on your mind!
They are mainly red in color and live under stones, fallen trees, and in soil. They are aggressive ants, often attacking rather than running away, and are equipped with a stinger that injects a poison which causes a severely burning pain in the skin. (See eg Wikipeedia)

The red imported fire ant (Solenopsis invicta), or simply RIFA, is one of over 280 species in the widespread genus Solenopsis. Although the red imported fire ant is native to South America, it has become a pest in many countries.
The RIFA was accidentally introduced into the United States aboard a South American cargo ship that docked at the port of Mobile, Alabama, in the 1930s, and came to infest the majority of the Southern and Southwestern United States.

N.B: There are many, many other ants causing similar burning pain so please spare your protests! I only want to spread knowledge about the word "piss ant" (its a better abuse than "You fire ant").

For examples of the use of commas, look at the U. S. Constitution and the King James Version of the Bible.

mitch4: it's just routine illiteracy I think. When standardized tests cover punctuation, they routinely offer things like that (that is, commas and other punctuation off by one word) as alternatives, so some people must write like that until/unless taught otherwise. Never made any sense to me though.

Living my life in the Midwest, I don't recall ever having a potato salad that didn't include hard boiled eggs.

I'm baffled by the placement of the comma in the Argyle Sweater comic. If it were one word later, it would still be mildly wrong but pretty normal. Here it seems hastily weird.
