Ha… reminds me of my long-ago Manhattan days, when once each month the meter-reader would show up in my apartment building, knock on all the doors at 7:30 AM, and shout “GAAAASS MAAAAN!” over and over again in a singsong voice with a thick New York accent. Most of the time he could only convince one or two people to open their doors at that hour.

Today my mother told me that one of my nieces warned her that “if uncle Craig holds out his finger and says pull it, DON’T DO IT!”

Morning, madam, I’ve come to read your poet. What is it, a Swinburne? Shelley?
    No, it’s a Wordsworth.
    Oh, bloody daffodils.

ABSOLUTELY TRUE - My maternal uncle passed away. We have the funeral and go to the cemetery. Unlike my dad’s family, this uncle is not being buried near other family and we have never been to this cemetery before. In the middle of the graveside part of the funeral my husband and my BIL starting looking at each other and trying not to laugh. I follow their gaze, and 2 rows behind my uncle’s grave is a head stone which reads (along with the personal data) - “Pull my finger.” I know this is a oft repeated joke, but it is true. He is buried in New Montifiore Cemetery in Lindenhurst, NY.
