Judge Mental: “I think I get the gist of what is going on here, but I think the colorist confused matters by not coloring the sun. The sun (background) comes off looking like a giant snowball in the foreground, particular in the 3rd panel where Caulfield appears to be staring at said snowball. In cases like this, you wonder if he (the colorist) thought it was a snowball and left it white on purpose.”

New York Times Pay-Per-View

So how long until the Times reverses their new online subscription scheme? I figure no later than the end of this year, when they realize that only 6 people have actually paid up. nytimes.com is already free to subscribers of the print edition, everybody is allowed to read 20 full articles a month, and already people have figured out with more loopholes than General Electric’s tax attorneys — so who’s the paying audience?

And if I had any doubt that the Times has no idea what they’re doing, I just got a message on the Times app on my smart phone that while internet visitors will be entitled to 20 free articles a month, anybody using the app will have to pay for every article.

In other words, “Thank you for your loyalty and for downloading our app, and now screw you.”

I can, by the way, accept the fact that the girl has no idea about the Popeye/spinach connection because according to a scientific survey I conducted a few months ago, neither of my kids had even heard of Popeye.
