Cidu Bill on Feb 1st 2011
This is the 3000th CIDU post since we migrated over to this new format in January of 2008. And with it comes a challenge: no peeking please, which comic has been represented here the most during those 3+ years?

Brevity? (strictly CIDU)
Argyle Sweater? (EWWW)
Bizarro? (all categories combined)
Arlo and Janis? (all categories combined)

Jeez, it’s gotta be Arlo & Janis - I never understand what the hell they’re on about.
Shawn V Feb 1st 2011 at 12:37 pm 3
I’m thinking Arlos & Janis
Elyrest Feb 1st 2011 at 12:47 pm 4
I think it is Brevity, but Arlo and Janis are here a lot too.
Happy 3000th post and thanks for all the laughs.

SMBC?

Frazz and 9 Chickweed lane show up a lot too, but I think the others have gotten the actual top contenders for the #1 spot.
If the old site AND this one were taken into account, it’d almost certainly be Arlo & Janis
Paperboy Feb 1st 2011 at 02:26 pm 7
Brevity.
tristara Feb 1st 2011 at 02:50 pm 8
Most bashed comic: Funky Winkerbean
Morris Keesan Feb 1st 2011 at 02:50 pm 9
I’m guessing “Brevity”.
James Pollock Feb 1st 2011 at 02:54 pm 10
A&J. Every time the cat appears in the strip…
zbicyclist Feb 1st 2011 at 02:56 pm 11
1. Arlo and Janis (mostly Arlos)
2. Brevity (for pure CIDUs)
Tom Feb 1st 2011 at 03:06 pm 12
I’m thinking Mark Trail, but I hope it’s Mary Worth.
chene Feb 1st 2011 at 03:10 pm 13
No votes for xkcd?
Brevity has to be up there.

When do we get to know the answer, Bill? And I’d wonder - which comic has the most new followers due to this site? Not that there is any way to find out. I know I now regularly read four that I would not read otherwise. (Frazz, cul de Sac, Arlo & Janis & xkcd)
CIDU Bill Feb 1st 2011 at 03:24 pm 15
chemgal, I suppose we could get some idea if I put the question out there. It won’t be complete, or very scientific, but the top five would probably be fairly accurate.

I agree with Tristara….Funky. Or at least it should..haah
BetterBanon Feb 1st 2011 at 05:26 pm 17
@Tom — Are you confusing CIDU with the Comic Curmudgeon?
I would bet that the name Arlo appears in every post, if not in the actual post, then in the comments.
As for most time features in CIDUs, my guess is Argyle Sweater.

My first thought was also Funky W, but maybe it’s Guy and Rodd’s strip. I’m convinced they try to come up with a CIDU-worthy strip at least once a month in hopes of getting free publicity from this blog.
CIDU Bill Feb 1st 2011 at 05:57 pm 19
BetterBanon, all we’re counting here are appearances by the comic strip itself: The Arlo Page actually appears more frequently than any individual comic.
Kamino Neko Feb 1st 2011 at 06:35 pm 20
If the question of what people have started reading because of CIDU - for me, it’s Arlo and Janis and Brevity, as well as picking up 9 Chickweed Lane again (although I read it regularly for a couple years at the beginning of the decade, but stopped when I changed jobs and didn’t have a Sun on hand at every lunch break).

Gotta be Arlo, he even has a page named after him, whoops thats Arlo Guthre, sorry !

I’m goona go for SMBC or whatever it’s called.
I hadn’t heard of it before I came here.
The Bad Seed Feb 1st 2011 at 11:24 pm 23
I’m sure this isn’t the answer, but Dr. Fun used to make a load of appearances here. As bad as I thought it was most of the time, I was sad when it was gone.

3000? Wow! Congratulations!
And just because: The New Yorker cartoons.
mitch4 Feb 2nd 2011 at 07:36 am 25
“no peeking”? Is there a readymade stats page or listing?
Morris Keesan Feb 2nd 2011 at 09:25 am 26
Comics I read because of this site:
Frazz
SMBC
9 Chickweed Lane (and, indirectly, Pibgorn)
Least I Could Do (I think this is where I first encountered it).
Brevity
maybe others, but those are the ones I’m reasonably sure of.
Alison Feb 2nd 2011 at 09:50 am 27
I gotta think Brevity - Guy and Rodd show up as CIDUs a ton. For Arlos I am thinking it might be Cyanide and Happiness…
Heather D Feb 2nd 2011 at 10:05 am 28
My guess as to the most frequent: Brevity. Several others probably come close, but that’s my guess.
Comics I read because of this site — mostly the same as Morris Keesan!
Frazz
SMBC
9 Chickweed Lane, and, from there, Pibgorn
Argyle Sweater

I started reading SMBC and Frazz because of this site, but my local paper has started carrying Frazz in the past year. I am very old school in that I still read the paper every morning, including every comic, even the ones I don’t typically enjoy. When I am traveling, I still do the same with that city’s local paper. I obviously supplement my comic intake with web-only comics and some other my favorite strips that I don’t get locally.
Big Cheater Feb 2nd 2011 at 06:03 pm 30
My guess would be Arlo and Janis ( I am thinking about 181 appearances), followed by SMBC, Argyle Sweater, Brevity, and Off the mark.
