All I can think is that you really do see signs that say “Beware of Dog” and “Wet Floor”, but there is no such sign out there for “Tornado Warning”. The comic is showing an absurdity - or Guy lost a bet again.

Is the tornado also drawn to be dual-functioning as something like a thought balloon? Is the balding moustached guy having twisted ideas?

The balding fellow in the foreground is a bit odd, but I am otherwise reminded that one sees warning signs so often, one tends to ignore them. The poor guy in the middle is having one of those over-the-top “oh no, what next?” kind of days, often seen in cartoons, and realizing that those warning signs just might have something important to tell him.

Didn’t see the 1st sign and is chased by the dog.
Didn’t see the 2nd sign and is now slipping.
Didn’t see the 3rd sign and is now about to be ….
Let’s call him Murphy shall we?
    The other are by-standers …

The poor fellow might even have seen the signs, but couldn’t do anything about the sequence of events anyway. Once he ran from the dog he couldn’t stop to walk carefully on the slippery floor, and we see what’s next in line. The two people spared are there to tell us Fate is inevitable but not random. Or something like that.

I do believe that tornado warnings are often issued on TV and radio for areas in tornado alley. I suspect this is just a play on those warnings and is , as Elyrest pointed out, an exercise in the absurd.

The balding guy has an obvious comb-over that will be affected by the looming tornado.

I believe Elyrest was on the right track. “Beware of dog” and “wet floor” are warnings that are known before-hand, and such signs can be displayed accordingly. A tornado, while predictable to a point, isn’t really a situation that lends itself for display of a warning sign. However in this situation, the sign is quite accurate.

Nicole 6 - not just tornado alley, but anywhere there is a chance of a tornado.

Indeed, but those of us in Oklahoma are well familiar with tornado warnings…

Either the old lady’s legs end at the knee, or that Beware of Dog sign is non-euclidian….

No, the sign is just fine. But the lady has a notch in her back.

The first thing I thought of seeing Bill’s title, was the movie by the same name. This is way better.

Looks like the dog has the sign stuck in his head.

Which would address the non-Euclidean problem.

The poor fellow is just prone to bad luck, and the signs aren’t helping a bit. He’s being chased by the dog, slipping on the wet floor, right into the tornado. The other people are unaffected, showing just how capricious life can be (i.e. that this one guy is the one the universe is mad at, and there’s nothing to be done about it.)

I seem to remember a Don Martin cartoon that went something like this: A man is walking down the road. He sees a sign that says “Turn Left”. He turns left. He sees a sign that says “Turn Right”. He turns right. He sees a sign that says “Beware of Falling Safes.” He stops and stares at it, puzzled. A safe falls on him.

If you post a warning sign about it, it will come. The next sign to be posted should say, “Watch for falling thousand-dollar bills”.

There is a song by The Five Man Electrical Band called Signs.

    Sign Sign everywhere a sign
Blocking out the scenery breaking my mind
Do this, don’t do that, can’t you read the sign
