Morris Keesan: Should I have understood this without Google? I understood the comic, but I had to use Google to find out what “red rudy projects” are. Rudy Project is a company which makes sunglasses; does not knowing that make me really out of touch, or is Mallett really off base with his assumption that this is common knowledge (or even as common as his occasional literary allusions)?

… 18% of the American public believe Obama’s a Muslim. If you think that’s bad, what until you hear the percentage who believe he’s black.

I’ve been thinking, in light of the “Ground Zero Mosque” controversy, that we need a law prohibiting Christians from teaching in schools or working with children in any capacity: there are many documented cases of Catholic priests molesting children, after all, so we know all we need to know about Catholics. And really, what’s the difference between Catholics, Lutherans, Anglicans, Presbyterians, Episcopalians and Baptists anyway? Christians are Christians.

Okay, so I’m watching a basketball game last night… actually, running on a treadmill in the health club and listen to my mp3 player, but there was a television screen right in front of me… and I look up and there are these two players going at one another like this:

Except, of course, imagine these two as enormous, fierce-looking black guys. I thought I was mistaken, but they showed a replay and yes, they were engaged in a little-girl slap fight.
Eh, maybe you had to have been there.
The interesting thing is, the night before, there was a WNBA game on that same television screen, and those girls are freakin’ vicious! We’re talking Rollerball-level violence.

… he’s going to be surprised to discover that Edna has somehow transformed into a garden gnome.
If this is Peter’s son (which would strain credibility even more than Edna’s transformation into a garden gnome, since he should be several years younger than Juliette), the fact that he recognizes Edna’s granddaughter from a photo his father kept is creepy on so many levels.
I guess it is possible that Peter had a son floating around from before he met up with Edna in 1954 or so, but then the creepy aspect still applies.

Mitch: I thought it was going to be the standard but risqué joke that takes “cavities” sexually. The nostrils make it more of an ewww.
Patrick Lenon: I’m just glad Evans didn’t subject us to the view the girls have. Especially since I doubt very much Knute got the bikini wax before pulling this stunt…

Got a letter from the IRS last month saying we owed them more than $10,000. When my heart rate returned to near-normal, I checked the numbers and discovered that they’d ignored my wife’s W2 form — with all her withholding — and concluded we hadn’t paid that. And then added penalties, late fees and interest.
So I sent them, by registered mail, a letter of explanation, and a copy of all the paperwork including the W2 they’d missed. I figured they’d see their error, make the appropriate adjustments, send us an apology, and ofer to take us out to dinner as a way of making up for inconveniencing us.
According to the post office receipt, they received the envelope on July 29.
Today I received another letter from them saying that since they hadn’t heard from me as of August 9, they wanted payment immediately. If we didn’t pay, they’d come to New Jersey and arrest us, then kill all our pets. If we didn’t have any pets, they’d buy us pets and then kill them.

Maybe I’m missing the whole concept of this comic strip: Are the Keane children supposed to be brain-damaged or something? Because seriously, kid, just put the damn thing back on. It’s not rocket science.
I keep thinking this kid’s going to grow up and write a comic strip with jokes revolving around a kid losing his bathing suit and forgetting how to put it back on.

James Schend: Let’s take the premise of the comic which is that the Earth is a computer program stored in a couple of servers– in that case, how does the “turtles, all the way down” comment make any sense?
Also, I find it interesting that he promos two Apple laptops, complete with logo, and yet doesn’t draw the server itself which is almost certainly not Apple… Apple servers are notoriously unpopular.

The “turtles all the way down” phrase is a reference to
this, by the way — but that doesn’t help me much here -Bill
