Mitch: I thought it was going to be the standard but risqué joke that takes “cavities” sexually. The nostrils make it more of an ewww.

I didn’t think Evans had the nerve to do it. Kudos to him!

I love Crystal, and Knute.

Yes, it’s only a comic strip, but my heart went out to the unseen retail employee who must decide whether or not to let that $86 bikini be sold to some unsuspecting customer.

Can someone tell me what is going on here, please. That IS a guy, right? Why is he trying on a bikini?
Freezer Aug 14th 2010 at 04:04 am 5
@Pete #4: Basically because Crystal (the goth girl) semi-dared him to.

I like Crystal. I just don’t understand why she’s friends with Tiffany. Crystal’s so much less self-centered than Tiff and a lot nicer.

That’s why most stores make you keep your underwear on when trying on swim suits.

Anybody else remember Jim Carrey’s “Vera de Milo” bit? Back when he was funny?

For a while I was following the comments area for Luann on the United Media (?? or comics.com) site. There was a surprisingly sensible contingent there to defend Tiff.

Clydefrog was anything but sensible.

Pete, a large part of the character of Knute is that he’s clueless ( possibly intentionally ) about when he should be embarrassed about doing or saying certain things. Therefore, I could very easily picture him exposing himself to two girls by wearing a bikini that wouldn’t be large enough to cover his genitals.

KN: You’re right about the Frog!
But I was a conventional reader accepting that our title character Luann, though she might need to learn some lessons, would always ultimately be in the right, and always superior to the main antagonist, Tiffany. So I was surprised and interested to find myself somewhat convinced by the postings (from a few different users) claiming that Tiffany had shown moments of generosity and taking care of others that go beyond what we would have been expecting of her. Thus, participating in the “dunking” both to raise money for Delta and the class trip (albeit using this for an ego trip of her own); and being surprisingly gentle about quashing the rumors pairing her with Gunther. [Or do I have some of that confused?] Not to say she is a “shadow heroine” or anything that far … but neither is she fully malevolent.

Does this balance the “Aack! Cathy in a bathing suit” strip? Because only beautiful people, male or female, should wear bathing suits; everyone else is worthy of ridicule.

“Because only beautiful people, male or female, should wear bathing suits”
So who gets to be the judge on who’s beautiful? Not many people actually agree on this. There are people out there who are proclaimed to be beauties and they make me feel creeped out. No one is worthy of ridicule - even people who probably deserve it (for other reasons).
Elyrest Aug 14th 2010 at 01:53 pm 17
ty - Or was that sarcasm? I’ve been told recently that my sarcasm detector is out of whack.

By the time the Gunther thing was happening, I had given up on comics.com (my account somehow got screwed up, and no matter how many times the tech people tried to fix it, it never worked), so if someone else came in to defend Tiff around then, I never saw it…

Elyrest - yup. Don’t know why the elitism, as expressed in this and the Lio strips, bugs me so much, but it does.
