Sal Biondo: I get that you shouldn’t build a jacuzzi on a bee burial ground but what is the significance of the car, the tennis racket, and the school jersey? Also is the name Sharif important?

I, meanwhile, don’t even get why you shouldn’t build a jacuzzi on an ancient bee burial ground. Yeah, OK, I see a bunch of bees, but… why?

That appears to be a University of California-Irvine Anteaters jersey. I don’t know what sport; they don’t have a football or hockey team, and it’s definitely not a baseball or basketball jersey. They do have a tennis team, but tennis teams don’t usually wear jerseys. Maybe soccer?

Overall, though, I think Guy and Rodd are just trying to get themselves on CIDU.

The reference is to “Poltergeist,” semi-funny, I guess. But what is the meaning of the Saturn with the racing decals down there. My experience of Saturn drivers is that they are not NASCAR contenders.

I think the title of this one is ‘A Love Letter To Bill’, personally…

The jersey is CIU, for ‘Comics I Understand’.
    And it’s lost.

That’s an awfully small Jacuzzi. Our hot tub is bigger than that, and it’s one of the smaller ones.

  7. Kamino Neko Jul 30th 2010 at 11:03 am 7

No, it’s a karge hot tub. Sharif and Mrs Sharif are just giants. The car’s only a few feet behind them.

… Of course, I see the typo a half second after hitting submit.

    That’s ‘kot tub’, of course.

Perhaps they’re dabbling in Bizarro-isms, just tossing in a bunch of references that only friends will get.

Given igeek’s revealing links, I’d say Dave Van Domelen (9)’s arrow has come closest to the mark. Without those links, I think this ‘toon would never have made any sense at all. Well done Dave!

From igeek’s link: “I’m afraid of ghosts and bees and I just have no idea what I’d do if I saw the ghost of a bee.”

    That made me laugh.

    Who buries bees?

  15. George Jul 30th 2010 at 07:11 pm 15

Some bees bury themselves. They live underground. Like bumblebees.

  16. Jeff S. Jul 30th 2010 at 10:10 pm 16

They are bee ghosts. My brother would FREAK OUT. He is deathly afraid of bees and wasps, and not too fond of ghosts either.

  17. Jeff S. Jul 30th 2010 at 10:11 pm 17

    turquoise… other bees, of course.

  18. Tim Jul 30th 2010 at 10:38 pm 18

If they’re ghosts, would they be “boo-bees”?
Thanks, I’ll be here all week. Remember to tip your waitress.

I thought the Saturn and the tennis racket were just there to show that the couple are what used to be called yuppies.

    Are they still called yuppies?

  20. DanV Jul 31st 2010 at 12:01 am 20

Or, remember your waitress’s big tips…

  21. Jeff S. Jul 31st 2010 at 12:47 am 21

The bee against the lady’s torso is see through, so I’m pretty sure they are ghost bees. To bad her bikini isn’t see-through, or we’d see a couple more boo-bees! Badda-bing!

  22. Paul Jul 31st 2010 at 12:32 pm 22

Would have given it 2 stars for the attempt at a Poltergeist joke, but it has to lose 1 star for the ridiculous inside jokes that no one can get. Definitely won’t end up in anyone’s cartoon hall of fame.
