I myself will feel perfectly okay with pants hanging low as soon as it’s legal for people to walk around with no pants at all. It serves the same purpose- showing off your drawers. Why not?

I am reminded of one of my mother’s lines:
“He cannot possibly know what he looks like.” I’m officially old; my primary emotional response to that photo was ’sure am glad MY sons don’t dress like that’.

But not so old I didn’t notice he looks pretty good shirtless.

(A Thoreauvian jail term, one would hope, denoting a refusal to compromise one’s principles.)

Why is it that the boxers that are displayed in this style are generally quite simple and mainstream? (apart from the access slots or pockets in this example) Here they are a muted-color cross-stripes, with a checkerboard effect. Suitable for a guy three or four times his age. Why hasn’t a “flashy boxers” branch of this style developed?

Last time I was back in the states, I saw two guys running for the bus. One resorted to the crotch-pull in order to make the bus. The other kept his fashion sense, refused to pull them up, and stumbled toward the bus as his mate got the driver to wait. The driver was struggling to keep from laughing.

Adding to Molly J’s post, I’ve heard that prison pants don’t necessarily slip down, but rather that the prisoners who let them hang are advertising for sex. Emulating that is even more tragic.

I’m about as “live and let live” as they come, but that just looks plain stupid. He looks like someone who realized at the critical moment that there was no toilet paper and is now hobbling out to the linen cupboard to remedy the situation.

I read in Tom Wolfe’s “A Man in Full” that this look is actually based on prison garb. Prisoners are not issued belts as they are a safety risk, so logically some have pants that slip down and hang low during the course of a day. For young men to be emulating this seems pretty sad to me.
