September of 2008 Called…

I mean seriously… what’s the thought process behind drawing a “current events” gag that’s almost 2 years past its sell-by date?

Is the author a Republican? Some of my Republican friends are just now acknowledging the crash, now that they figure Bush can be written out of the conversation.
At least we’re done with “chad” comics, finally. (right?)

It is not like the economy is picking up at a record pace now is it? Not to worry, the D’s will continue to blame Bush. Not paying for the wars and excessive spending were certainly on his watch. The rest of this current mess belongs to the current occupant of the White House. The genesis of the Wall Street shenanigans was the process, by more than one administration, to “encourage” banks to get people into home ownership that they would never be able to afford. Current financial reg bill does not even try to fix Fannie and Freddie, who are bleeding badly. We need leadership and there is none on the horizon.
Is the cartoonist feeling that there will be another downturn as some are predicting?

“Remember that time when the economy crashed and millions lost their homes and jobs? Wasn’t that funny?”
Jeff S. Jul 15th 2010 at 10:46 am 4
I laugh every time I think about how I lost my job this January and I laugh some more knowing I’m STILL unemployed.

You see, the REAL crash hasn’t occurred yet.

@dd #1,
I don’t know anybody who says that the economy hasn’t crashed. I just know a lot of theories as to what caused it, and how well current policies are treating it.

I mean, Jeff S. laughs now (sorry Jeff) but was this even that funny in September 2008?
John Bledsoe Jul 15th 2010 at 08:20 pm 8
@DD - She’s a democrat and uses her Thursday’s Six Chix as an editorial cartoon on anything she wants to say. She’s one of those “bleeding heart” liberals.
Jeff S. Jul 15th 2010 at 09:55 pm 9
@ David N — Nope. Not even close.
@John Bledsoe — So am I, but the strip still isn’t funny. Franly, I don’t care whose fault it is. I just want someone to assume some responsibility and fix it.

Jeff — the economy is notoriously resistant to being “fixed”. Measures can be taken to prevent, delay, or mitigate the bad times, but recovery can only be influenced in minor ways. The Bush and Obama administrations both did what they could to make the recession as limited as possible; now it’s just a matter of waiting.
Rainey Jul 16th 2010 at 09:25 am 11
If this comic strip is past its “sell-by” date, then the one about the French Revolution is over two centuries past its “sell-by” date. Comic strips shouldn’t have “sell-by” dates unless they are specifically intended as editorial comic strips. Six Chix is not.
Pirk and Jeff S, I don’t find this strip humerous so much as I find it a commentary of a past event as well as visually ironic. ( Economy crashes don’t happen this way. ) Comic strips don’t necessarily need to be humerous as long as they paint a mental picture and get one’s imagination working on what certain situations would be like.
P.S. Yes I know I once again used the word “ironic”.
P.P.S. I have great sympathy for Jeff S. for being unemployed, especially if the unemployment was beyond his control.

I wasn’t going to discuss it further, but I wanted to answer Rainey’s implied question… It was not of my doing. “Company went in a new direction”, “We’re not using that program any longer”, and so on. I was laid off and given all the usual excuses when a new boss comes in and cleans house.
I had my story typed out, but no one wants to hear my problems.

Well, at least the recession is over now. At least, according to Obama, it is:

Prosperity is just around the corner.
