Hmm, I actually have to think on this one. I currently have three ex-girlfriends as friends on Facebook, am blocking one as it wasn’t a very good breakup, and the rest either aren’t on Facebook or haven’t kept in touch. Then again, I’m a friendly guy, so very little bad blood exists between me and most other people. I can see where this could take a turn for the worst, though. I suppose it depends on what type of circles you hang out with, though.

There are enough borderline “stalkers” in this world that give me a reason to AVOID signing up for fb, in spite of the insistence of my mother that wants me to join. Ain’t gonna happen.

I don’t understand the issue with being friends (Facebook or otherwise) with ex-girlfriends. I have six ex-girlfriends (not exactly a player, but whatever) and all of them are Facebook friends. And I’ve been married for 20 years. Friends are friends, not threats to fidelity.

@2 I got to see her open for Ben Folds a few months ago in Boston. She put on a hell of a show, she’s got a great voice, and did a good song with Ben afterward. Cool stuff.

I’ve friended exes and ex-friends, even people I hated or considered my mortal enemies in school, and nothing untoward or unpleasant ever came from any of it. But a friend of mine did get a friend request from a currently-married ex-fiancee who had pervy ulterior motives, but a cheater is a cheater is a cheater, no matter the medium.

As tempting as such things can be, I have steered clear of people on Facebook that I would steer clear of in real life. A wise decision, I’ve learned, based on the one person I should have steered clear of.

I think I mentioned this before… During my last week at my job (laid off), I had several people ask me to join Facebook. I had successfully resisted up until then, but I figured it was a great way to stay in touch, so I asked my daughter to set it up for me. She is 13 and a HUGE user of fb. So she set up a page for me… and since she didn’t know who I wanted to be friends with, she sent out friend invites to all of her friends. So here I am, a 48 yr old man with twenty-five or so 13 yr old girls as fb friends.

I keep waiting for the knock on the door from the FBI.

Anyway, I have yet to search for any old girlfriends… mainly because I’ve been married for 23 yrs. I don’t remember any their names.

I have absolutely no interest in Facebook (growing less as I learn more about their business practices), but if I were a Facebook user I would probably “friend” any of my ex-girlfriends. I’m on good terms with the ones I run into, and at least two of them were at my wedding. I called one of them yesterday to wish her happy birthday; she and her girlfriend have been together about as long as my wife and I have been.

I don’t use Facebook so I’m not a valid indicator of this phenomena. I think if I did it I would have no problem with some exes and I would never go near others. Some people I would rather keep as nice memories and other memories weren’t so nice so why repeat them.
