I still giggle every time an “Aciphex” commercial comes on. I keep expecting “unusual flatulence” to be a side effect.

The Dilbert TV show did a great job of capturing the futility of it all.

Ah, the TV show. They had the perfect name for their product — “Acorn” — but to give the CEO a choice, they came up with the meant-to-be-rejected “Gruntmaster 9000.” At the fateful meeting, the CEO decided to regale the peons with an anecdote about summer camp, when he emerged from the freezing lake sans trunks and was forever traumatized by a hateful nickname . . .

For several episodes thereafter, they were working on the Gruntmaster.

The first episode of the animated Dilbert show was pretty much this gag. All the good names have been taken, so they have a brainstorm, where the suggestions are limited to greek names, diseases and secretions.

I’m thinking this was inspired by the jokes flying around when the iPad became known. Jokes about feminine hygiene products. Before the iPad, there was the iProd. Arloing: It’s not just for CIDU.

BTW, I was thinking that this strip was a bit exaggerated, and then a commercial for the new drug “Asiphex” came up on my TV.

Again life imitates Dilbert, and vice versa.

A while back the entrance to one of the departments in Dilbert’s company (Accounting, maybe?) was clearly the business end of a large intestine. (Outgoing business, that is, since you ask.) Here at least he used words instead of pictures.
