This reminds me of those final nightmare years at About.com when the “editors,” few of whom had any actual writing or web site experience, alternated between telling us to focus on content to the exclusion of everything else, and focusing on community to the exclusion of everything else –and then penalized anybody who couldn’t switch gears (including reformatting years of earlier work) quickly enough.
But putting the unpleasant déjà vu aside, what’s the joke here?
The meta line, by the way, was “I’m looking to virally monetize your eyeballs by selling them for transplants.”

I really hate to think about what happens when you
lose.
By the way, if anybody gets Brevity in their local Sunday paper, I’d really appreciate getting an actual hard copy of this.

Stuart K: Maybe it is because I’m not that far removed from the diaper stage, but I was more repulsed than amused.

You really have to figure that a woman who gets a big Winnie the Pooh tattooed on her right upper back and a big Eeyore tattooed on the left upper back is going to regret it some day.

Is this supposed to be analogous to runway models, so skinny that they’re just bones? That would explain the photographers; but the dinos in the foreground seem to be sitting at nightclub tables.
Which kind of relates to an article I read the other day, about a magazine that retouched its cover model’s photo to make her look heavier, because she looked too skinny even by cover model standards.

Sunday night, Lost ends.
I’m hoping for a good send-off — the writing has certainly improved over the past couple of seasons — but realistically I don’t think there’s any way they can tie everything together in a way that makes any sense: they spent too much time throwing in everything including the kitchen sink, the bathroom sink, and the toilet down the hall. Maybe they’ll just streamline the ton of series mythology, ignoring 95% of it. Maybe they’ll try to fit all the pieces together and end up with an X Files type mess.
Or a Battlestar Galactica style “Yeah, we really have no idea either.”
Or maybe the writers actually had a plan all along (though isn’t that what they said about the Cylons, until they didn’t?), and we’re in for a glorious, stunning finale.
I’m not holding my breath, though.
A couple of years ago, we discussed worst-ever television endings. There were 68 comments and to spare anybody from repeating themselves now, I’m tacking this onto the old discussion rather than starting a new one.
August 30, 2008:
So Grandpa Jim will remain on death’s door for eternity. How uplifting.
This monstrosity made me think about the worst television endings ever. I doubt there are many Star Trek fans who wouldn’t name Enterprise’s finale as one of the worst ever. Quantum Leap was another stinker.
Of course, a great many television series simply go off the air and don’t have finales at all — and some go on for too many seasons and stink so bad by the end that any finale is a mercy killing (I’m sure some of you are thinking FBOFW falls into this category, so I’ll save you the trouble of pointing that out) — but the question before us here is: Worst television finale ever (or to put it in a more trendy way, worst. television. finale. ever.)

There’s an e-mail circulating about promising you a free iPad in return for testing it out for a couple of months. It will appear to have been forwarded to you by one of your e-mail contacts.
It’s a scam designed to get your e-mail password, and then use the password to send more copies of the same fake offer — as well as other shady spam — to everybody on your e-mail contacts list, appearing to have been sent by you.

No way Jeremy sends out texts: he issues a mass invitation over Facebook, and his friends RSVP right online. Of course he’d probably still be using his phone to access his Facebook account.

I can’t draw. I mean, a lot of people
say they can’t draw, but I’m in awe of the artistic abilities of the guy who does XKCD.
So in some perverse way, it pleases me that no cartoonist on the planet seems capable of drawing feet (normal human feet, that is, not Grog feet). For once, everybody’s down to my level.

I was reminded of just how old I am when I met Shortpacked’s David Willis at the Wild Pig Comic Con in Springfield, NJ Saturday afternoon. My wife came along for a single reason: to tell David she’s a great fan of the Batman gags he writes into his strip. He drew her this

which she’s going to hang on the wall in her cubicle at work. And then, since gardening takes up most of her free time in spring and summer, she of course had to buy this
