Terrorists hate the West because we can obsess over television shows to this degree.

I think it’s more like “I hate the Lost finale so much that I now understand how extremists can feel so much hate”.

My first take (until I read the last line) was something like this:
“The finale of Lost makes me feel so much hatred. This must feel like the kind of hate extremists feel towards us!”

My second reading is more like this (similar, but not quite the same):
“I can understand why they hate us so much when we make crap like this. It makes me want to hate us too!”

The first is sympathizing with the feeling of hatred, i.e. they are similar levels of hate. The second is more an understanding of the CAUSE of the hatred. I think #2 is the better interpretation.

I agree with Dan W’s 2nd explanation. Extremists hate us because we produce crap like the LOST finale.

That is, I agree that it’s the right explanation. I don’t agree with the sentiment.

I read it as a combination of both. The first three panels I read like Dan W’s first explanation, and the fourth panel fits with his second explanation. It’s almost like the comic changes focus from the third panel to the last panel.

I believe he’s saying simply that extremists hate us because we don’t live up to their unrealistic expectations.

Seems to be an agreement that Dan W#5’s explanation (“I can understand why they hate us so much when we make crap like this. It makes me want to hate us too!”) is right.
So, are the two strip characters Gay, as well as the head LOST writers?
