Okay, let’s give credit where it’s due…

Ethically ambiguous journalist Joe McGinniss has rented the house next to Sarah Palin’s to help him write his unauthorized biography of the former VP-candidate former governor (see article). Assuming she thought of this herself, you have to give Palin points for posting a photo of the rented house online with the caption “Hi, Neighbor! May I Call You ‘Joe’?”

It terrifies me that we still let fascist bigots like this walk free.
Sari Everna May 26th 2010 at 12:03 am 2
‘Cause that’s not creepy and stalkerish at all.
CIDU Bill May 26th 2010 at 12:11 am 3
I’m sorry, Rid, did you somehow mistake this blog for talk radio?
The Bad Seed May 26th 2010 at 12:24 am 4
Why would you ever assume she thought of such a clever and funny thing herself?
The Bad Seed May 26th 2010 at 12:28 am 5
p.s. I assume we’ve all heard the real origin of that phrase by now, right? In debate practice she kept referring to Joe as Mr O’Biden, so she decided to skirt the whole issue.
CIDU Bill May 26th 2010 at 12:29 am 6
The Biden reference is what makes it funny.

I’m not sure if I’d do that if I were her. I agree that it is a little strange, and - ugh. I don’t think that’s ethical at all.
Charlene May 26th 2010 at 12:50 am 8
I mean, I don’t think that what he is doing is ethical. She can post pictures of the house all she wants.

Seeing her on Saturday Night Live, she certainly has no problem with self-deprecating humor. I think that response is a hoot. Where online did she post the pic w/ caption?
The Bad Seed May 26th 2010 at 07:14 am 10
I’m not saying it’s not funny, but that she may have had writers for this particular joke. So do SNL and Letterman, Leno, etc.
Zack May 26th 2010 at 08:23 am 11
Can he also post pictures of her house all he wants?

Chip (#9), according to the news article linked above, she posted the photo and caption on Facebook

Palin and McGinniss next door to each other? Now there’s a pair to draw to. Plus there’s McGinniss.
I think McGinniss is just hoping to peek over the fence and catch Sarah sunbathing. I wonder if she really has one a them flag bikinis that they photoshopped her into…

Chip, I saw her SNL appearance and my feeling was that she couldn’t wait for it to be over so she could get back to her root canal.
You can’t blame her: Tina Fey really had really savaged her over the past few weeks and while Palin had to go through the motions of being a good sport, she’d have had to be brain dead not to have hated every minute of it.

“while Palin had to go through the motions of being a good sport, she’d have had to be brain dead not to have hated every minute of it.”
So then she DIDN’T hate every minute of it.

A different take on this story

I present this with no particular opinion on this story one way or the other.

Joe’s looking for publicity. Sarah’s looking for publicity. The unsurprising result: publicity.

Actually, it appears this whole situation was orchestrated by a vengeful neighbor. McGinniss’ son said in an email reprinted by Politico that his dad was offered the spot by Palin’s neighbor because the Palins owed her money:
“A woman was renting her house and sought out the author because the Palins had crossed her (owed her money for renovations she had done at their request and never paid her for). So she knew McGinniss was writing the book and found him and offered him the house.”
