Marshal nailed the joke. One minor contribution to the “ewww” factor (even if the diaper started clean and dry) is that the diaper increases in size from panel 1 to panel 2 to panel 3. Even if the 1 to 2 increase is “body mass”, that would indicate a decrease for panel 3 (where the gigantic head is no longer “inside”). This implies some other factor for the size increase. Yup, it’s an “ewww”.

In panel one, the diaper is bulging like a balloon about to pop. So that is an ewww when he puts his head in there. I wonder, though, how does he fit that hydrocephalic head into the diaper in the first place?

Definitely a play on the traditional cartoon turtle. Nothing EWWW to it this side of juvenile potty jokes
and even that’s a stretch.

@Charlene, this week had a series of strips where the baby has discovered mirrors and seems to think it’s another baby. But I’m with Stuart K… I’m never around babys or diapers, but I had the same thought and this was an immediate ewww for me.

The comic is an “Eeeww” because the diaper has been worn so long, the urine and fecal matter have dried it stiff.
