And better yet, what if she were a wise Latina pregnant woman?

I don’t know if it made Janis smarter, but Arlo certainly was a wise man.

I hope, I pray, or Hester to win just one more “A”…

I was seriously hoping to go the rest of my life without ever hearing the phrase “wise Latina” again.

Kate, the next nominee has just been named. Any guesses what catch-phrase will circulate — among supporters or opponents?

    mitch4: “Militant Lesbian”.

Is this a CIDU? I’m pretty sure that Arlo means pregancy is so misrable that any woman would know better in the future.

Arlo and Janis have a son. Therefore, Janis has been pregnant.

Once presented with the idea that “pregnancy makes women smarter,” Arlo needs to come up with SOME sort of response.

There really aren’t any good responses to that sentence. That’s about the best he can do.

When did Janis start dyeing her hair? In these old strips she’s always a brunette…

This one is a TIDU for me - Title I Don’t Understand. The comic was pretty straightforward but I don’t understand the title of the post.

It’s a reference to a comment made by Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor… And that also explains comments #4 and #5.

CIDU for me. Nothing “straightforward” about it. Arlo doesn’t look snarky, and Janice doesn’t look offended. It seems he’s genuinely agreeing with the plausibilty of the findings, but why? What is he basing that on? What’s the joke?

Dyfsunctional#10- I think it’s that Arlo wisely doesn’t get into an argument with Janis, as Elyrest#1 implies.

I did a search on Google News ( in the archives) and found a few articles
dated around November 1998. Seems to deal with hormones released during
pregnancy and nursing enrich parts of the brain dealing with learning.

So is this a comic from 1998? The 11/30 date on it would be a couple of weeks
after the article I looked at.

Marshall (12) - I checked online and it is from 1998. Your guess is probably right on where Jimmy Johnson got the idea.

    Sadder but wiser?

I don’t know… maybe she is arguing for having a baby. I will simply imagine that this cartoon is before Gene and that she wants to become smarter. Please don’t correct me.

    : )

I would guess that this is an old strip from when she was pregnant. A wise man never argues with a pregnant woman.

  17. todd May 11th 2010 at 12:13 am 17

If this is from 1998 (and that appears to be the copyright date), that means Gene would be younger than 12 now.

  18. Cidu Bill May 11th 2010 at 12:16 am 18

As far as I know, Janis was never pregnant during the run of A&J.

  19. Christine May 11th 2010 at 01:24 pm 19

It’s a wise comment to make - would you disagree with a (presumably) hormonal woman who was telling you that she was smarter now?

  20. ChuckC May 12th 2010 at 06:50 pm 20

Breast size increases during pregnancy. Why wouldn’t other things increase, like intelligence?

  21. Tim May 12th 2010 at 11:20 pm 21

    @Bill #18,
It’s not like they weren’t trying hard enough…

  22. Snardo May 19th 2010 at 08:43 am 22

I don’t know about intelligence (up or down), but my own data does show a significant trend toward increased forgetfulness in pregnant women! :)
