Mitch: With this one I have a hard time delineating where “I’d like to correct that!” leaves off and “But I still don’t understand why he’d say that” takes over.1) The standard plural of ‘bus’ is ‘buses’. This ‘busses’ is either plain wrong or at least a disfavored alternative.
2) If this is supposed to be a song/rhyme, does he say ‘wuss’ in a way that plausibly rhymes with ‘bus’? For me it’s a pretty bad off-rhyme.
3) And as CIDU, why (besides trying for a rhyme) is he calling anyone a ‘wuss’ for destroying his mailbox? They might be vandals or hooligans or (if he’s blaming the driver) incompetents — but why ‘wusses’?

Mischa: I sort of get that she’s scared by the spider, but why walk off stage in a haze of pink elephants (or whatever)?

Keera: Mostly LOL, a bit eww. There are so many fun details in this! It had me laughing several times. “Soylent Green flavor” made me go “eww!”

Dave: Is it just me… or is that poor placement on the bandages?
Steven Bridgeland:
Mitch: This ought to be something of an Ewww, but actually it was for me just amusing. Maybe you need to be more of a maple syrup fan to be bothered by it.
Okay, wait a second, now that I’m really looking at this one… Why did I not notice how much it needed to be on the Arlo Page? -Bill

Ethically ambiguous journalist Joe McGinniss has rented the house next to Sarah Palin’s to help him write his unauthorized biography of the former VP-candidate former governor (see article). Assuming she thought of this herself, you have to give Palin points for posting a photo of the rented house online with the caption “Hi, Neighbor! May I Call You ‘Joe’?”

This actually
does reflect teenager logic: phone calls take longer to deal with and can easily sit in voice mail for long periods of time. Texts get more immediate attention.
Of course that leaves us with the “then what’s the joke?” problem…

I am still in shock over how mind-bogglingly awful last night’s Lost finale was — especially since for a show that’s essentially a multi-year puzzle, the final episode makes or breaks the entire run. Still, this is where to discuss that.
Just to get the ashen taste out of my mouth, I’m reposting the 2008 discussion about best endings…
(Warning: Even though this is the wrong thread for discussions of the Lost finale, there are in fact spoilers below) Continue Reading »

I came across these two comics in a new Gahan Wilson collection, and I remembered them as if I’d just seen them — and then I saw that they were both almost 40 years old.

(If the comics are too big for your screen, please click them to see the full panels)

Oops. Somehow WordPress ate all the text that was supposed to accompany this comic.
I get the joke. My comment was “I don’t understand why Scott Hilburn drew this 40 years ago and didn’t get around to publishing it until now.”
