That was pretty amazing. thanks for posting.

I liked it a lot too. I was left at the end with echoes of Star Trek though - Star Trek III and the Genesis project and the Borg cube. I feel so nerdy.

    Oh, man, I love this.

  5. Charlene Apr 14th 2010 at 11:45 pm 5

I had to watch that three times to get it all. Whoa. Thanks for posting.

I should mention that I stole this from Nicole’s Facebook page.

I’m not sure whether the problem was overload at YouTube, poor Flash performance, or just plain cross-Atlantic bandwidth limits, but it added up to an unviewable video. I got much better results from the “native” Quicktime version at http://www.onemoreproduction.com/video/209.html

I’m going to come off as a killjoy if I say that it’s too upsetting for me to see major NYC landmarks being blown up?

    other than that, very cool.

  9. Nicole Apr 15th 2010 at 07:11 am 9

    Rain #8
No you aren’t … I thought of that too, but I guess I didn’t find it upsetting so much as a reminder

It’s quite fun seeing how creative they get with patterns of appearance and action from a variety of games. But I do agree it’s disturbing to see flying ships destroy New York buildings. :-(

    Hey, Geezers! Video Games!

mkilby, my DSL connection is often not quite fast enough to keep up with YouTube, so what I usually do is start the video, immediately hit the Pause button, and then go do something else for a little while until all of the video is buffered.

  12. mkilby Apr 15th 2010 at 11:01 am 12

@ Morris Keesan (11) - Buffering used to help me some, but I’ve found that ever since the latest so-called “improvement” in Flash most videos still stutter no matter what I do. The biggest advantage of the Quicktime version (see the link @ 7) is that it permits downloading the entire film (18 MB), which played just fine from my hard disk.

@ 1 & 10 - Even though I once was a Missile Command addict, I don’t see how it could have been fit into this framework, other than as an irrevocably final “Game Over”. It appears that the producers chose the first signature game from each “genre” (e.g, Frogger, Pac Man, Tetris, Arkanoid, Donkey Kong, etc.), and the “shoot it up” topic was already covered by Space Invaders (in not so threatening form). Otherwise, they might also have used “Defender”, or possibly “Centipede”.

The VGIDU is the bomb with the fuze (and I’m not sure how I would go about googling that).

  13. Rainey Apr 15th 2010 at 11:37 am 13

mkilby, the bomb is a reference to “Kaboom” by Activision. In this game you used buckets to catch falling bombs.

I should mention that I stole this from Nicole’s Facebook page.

… and every blog ever in the last 3 weeks. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen it. (Yes, it’s good, but it’s getting annoying. :)

“and every blog ever in the last 3 weeks. I can’t even count how many times I’ve seen it. (Yes, it’s good, but it’s getting annoying.”

I’ve never seen it before. I don’t read that many blogs and the ones that I do are unlikely to post something like this. Nicole has a blog? Hhhhhmmm?

  16. Jon88 Apr 15th 2010 at 01:35 pm 16

@James: You know, you’re not actually required to *watch* it every time …. ;-)

  17. Nicole Apr 15th 2010 at 01:38 pm 17

Nicole has a facebook page .. not a blog … I have thought about a blog … I just can’t figure out what to write about

  18. Sal Apr 15th 2010 at 05:36 pm 18

computer animation has become awesome. I just read that in the upcoming Green Lantern movie Green Lantern’s suit will be completly computer generated.Awesome.

  19. David N Apr 15th 2010 at 05:51 pm 19

Nicole, it’s easy to write. Just go with what you know. I’m sure there is something … interesting … you like, and can write a lot about. Hmm.

(yep, about bit my tongue in half writing that one) :D

  20. Jeff S. Apr 15th 2010 at 07:05 pm 20

I’ve never found anyone interesting enough to read their blog, and I’m certainly not interesting enough to write a blog.

Enough of that though. This is the first time I have seen it and I loved it. Only a small part was concerned about the NYC buildings though. It would have worked anywhere.

  21. turquoise cow Apr 15th 2010 at 08:05 pm 21

I read blogs regularly and I’ve never seen this before. It’s awesome, thanks for sharing it! I know quite a few people who would find this very cool.

  22. Nicole Apr 15th 2010 at 10:34 pm 22

David N #21 … LOl … A long time ago and in a galaxy far far away, before there was the internets … there were Bulletin Boards… which were very similar to the listservs of today. In that long ago far away galaxy I did belong to one BB that featured stories like the ones you are implying that I write … I was often lauded for my imagery. But I regret to say that anytime I have written anything there has always been some sort of inspiration ,,, when it comes you will be the first to know :-D

And in some vague almost-synchronicity, today’s Brevity: http://comics.com/brevity/2010-04-16/

  24. Keera Apr 16th 2010 at 12:19 pm 24

New York - and/or Los Angeles - is always getting destroyed, so after I stopped worrying about what happened to the people in the taxi cabs, I was fine with this until the very end. Me no like Earth as simple cube. :-(

  25. Pinny Apr 16th 2010 at 12:25 pm 25

Hey, check out the ads on the subway entrances right before they disappear!

  26. RobynS8971 Apr 20th 2010 at 02:52 pm 26

    Too 9/11 reminiscent for me…
