Snardo, I'd accept the position that it's okay to withhold contributions to an otherwise apparently worthwhile charity based on some of their ancillary activities or stances. (I previously contributed to Autism Speaks but ceased when I concluded from their website that they buy into the anti-vaccination scare tactics.) It becomes a little iffy when it approaches organizing a boycott; but your discussion in this thread is usefully cast as discussion and suggestion, not a demand or rant. So what it comes down to -- much as you speculated concerning this audience -- the issues you identify for MoD are not to me as troubling, and I don't take it as reason enough to refrain from supporting their positive efforts.

After seeing the types of comments typically posted here, I'm sure this appeal will won't mean much to most of the regulars, but are you aware of the types of procedures March of Dimes advocates for these days? I realize that the original focus of the organization was to eliminate polio. Having accomplished that, they've moved on to other things, including advocating for widespread pre-natal genetic testing that poses significant risk to the health of both mother and child. Most of the genetic disorders that can be diagnosed while the child is still in the womb are not treatable prenatally.

A quote from their website: "If a fetus has a condition for which prenatal treatment is not yet possible ... [p]arents can discuss their options with genetic counselors as well as with their health care providers."

Um, exactly what options are we talking about here?

I'm not saying all of their work is evil or unethical, but at the same time, MoD seems to work pretty hard to avoid being labeled pro-abortion while maintaining connections to that industry.

I'm happy to help out the March of Dimes --- even if it leaves CIDU Bill a little poorer (for a good cause).

I'm happy to be able to contribute to a good cause. Thanks go to Bill for providing this convenient route to these charities ... and for keeping us entertained!

Let's hope the carpers who imagine the site is profiting from unwilling cartoonists' work do not mistake the purpose of the Donate button. The explanation is there and is clear, the trick is in whether it will be seen and read.
