What’s Helen (the redhead) doing here, trying to unscrew her head?

No, that’s a wig. Helen’s actual hair color’s a bit different. So she’s situating a wig. Why, I do not know!

Ah, I see that now. Thanks.

Don’t you think you’re carrying your no-need-for-context a little to far when you only show one frame?

    - As mentioned, the girl’s not a redhead. You cut that part of the strip out and mislead us.
    - Second, the girl is applying to be a sex worker. You cut that *absolutely essential* piece of information out of this strip.
    - Third, the name of the strip is Something Positive. You left that out so we couldn’t check the missing panels.
    - Forth, she’s an underage teenager. Possibly not relevant unless she’s adjusting a wig the way a 17-year-old would.

All these things were in the unseen panels. Why do you ask questions and then act like an expert by withholding information? Why not just be honest and say you don’t understand the whole thing?

Fifth, she’s shown actually reaching to take the wig off of the shelf in the frame above the one shown. You cut that out.

Simmer down, Kevin. I didn’t notice that her hair was different in the first three panels or that she was reaching for a wig. I pretty much acknowledged that in my response to Angie. This was not all an elaborate scheme to bother you.

Is it now a “Comic I Do Understand”? (That would be a CIDU…)

  7. Cidu Bill Mar 17th 2010 at 05:11 pm 7

Jay, it was always a Comic I Do Understand — but there was that Panel I Didn’t Understand. Now my understanding is complete.

She is reaching out-of-frame in the panel above. Had that been the isolated frame, I would not have guessed “She’s reaching for a wig!”
(Of course, I hadn’t noticed the hair change at all when I’d read this All the words distracted me from following background action)

Hey Cidu Bill - I thought everyone was being a bit harsh so had to write. I looked back at the original, and a few further back and I can’t say it was at all obvious that the girl was adjusting (or getting) a wig. After all we have all seen random fluctuations in coloring in comix these days (and you can see a sample in this comic a few days back) and nothing in the ongoing story would suggest that wigs would be involved let alone randomly available.

That Helen went from brunet with a dark red fringe in the first 3 panels to bright fire engine redhead makes the ‘putting on a wig’ interpretation pretty obvious to me…that’s beyond ‘colouring error’ right into ‘major league screwup’…

Also, her hair STYLE changes significantly, which I’d be much more surprised if Randy did it accidentally than simply messing up when he was colouring.

I apologize, having one of those days. The dog ran off with my best friend and my wife chewed up my favorite shoes. Or is it the other way around?

You mean your best friend chewed up your favorite shoes? That would explain it.

Bill .. go say five hail Marys and three Our Fathers for peneace … and don’t let it happen again. Go in Peace

Nicole, I think Bill is Jewish, not Catholic; he probably doens’t know the Hail Mary.

Heh, without the context provided by others (and I didn’t notice the color change of the hair at first, either), I thought she was making some Arlo-esque gestures about what would happen more frequently if he moved closer

I’m wondering if the wig is some sort of bonus gag. The company Helen is applying to (where Nancy works) caters to the sexual fetishes of the videogame/roleplaying/sci-fi geek crowd. Is the wig a tool of the trade?
